In conditions resembling a washing machine Damien Hobgood showed his twin brother CJ it was all business in their quarterfinal exchange. Damien advanced into the semifinals while CJ had to be content with rooting for his brother from the bleachers.

Fredrick Patacchia found himself in a semifinal against defending champion Damien Hobgood after coming out tops against Darren O'Rafferty in the quarterfinals. Hobgoods desire for two in a row was too much for Patacchia to overcome and he leaves with an equal 3rd position and US $10,000 richer.

Greg "the foot" Emslie gained his best result of 2006 when he flew the South African flag during the quarter finals against Phil MacDonald. Emslie started with a flourish but Macdonald closed the gap as the windy conditions became increasingly difficult.

Phil MacDonalds reputation for liking sold surf showed its evidence in his quarter final matchup against Greg Emslie. With solid 4-6ft sets MacDonald threw his weight around despite howling winds which at times looked set to blow him off the wave. MacDonald met Fanning in the semifinal where his reign was stopped.

Darren O'Rafferty pulled some big turns in the testing conditions on hand for his quarterfinal against Fredrick Patacchia. Patacchia fought back and O'Rafferty had to be content with equal 5th placing and a seat in the stands.
