“Billabong Pro Teahupoo” Debuts on FUEL TV
The 2007 Foster’s ASP World Tour continues exclusively on FUEL TV with the television premiere of the Billabong Pro Teahupoo at 10:30 pm ET (7:30 pm PT) June 25, 2007 and will re-air more than five times over the next month.
The top 45 male surfers in the world compete in the death-defying barrels of the Billabong Pro Teahupoo looking for a chance at glory and a shot at the World Champion Title.
Coming into the contest, Australians Mick Fanning and Taj Burrow were the overall ratings leaders, but would have to face stiff competition from the best in the world, including Australian Joel Parkinson, Hawaiians Andy and Bruce Irons, and Floridians Kelly Slater and Damien Hobgood.
In another dramatic final, Fanning faced Hobgood, who was looking to redeem his second-place finish from the year before. This time, he prevailed and took home the trophy, while Fanning finished in second and moved into first in the overall tour rankings.
