Mavericks Surf Ventures partners with Ignition

Jan 19 2007 / Los Angeles, CA
Surf fans are about to get their Mavericks Surf Contest® fix a little quicker. Announcing a partnership with Ignition, the leader in sports action mobile, Maverick Surf Ventures will offer fans the ability to sign up for the "Greenlight" SMS Mobile campaign for the 2007 Contest. How does it work? Just sign up for the text messaging service by texting MAVS to 44648 on their cell phone, which will then give them a "Greenlight" message as soon as The Mavericks Surf Contest® (presented by Ask.com®) is announced. Just like the competitors, fans will receive up-to-the-minute alerts as everyone scrambles to convene at Half Moon Bay .

"We're thrilled to be working with Mavericks Surf Ventures to bring the excitement of the Contest instantly to all mobile network users," says Ray Ibe, the Chief Marketing Officer for Ignition.

In addition to the "Greenlight" text, Ask.com® will be hosting a "Smart Answer" fully dedicated to the SMS alert for fans who visit Ask.com® and search for "Mavericks Surf Alert." The alert is available for Alltel, Boost, Cingular, Cin Bell, Dobson, Nextel, Sprint, T-Mobile and Verizon subscribers, and costs .99 cents (plus standard message rates).

As surf fans know, The Mavericks Surf Contest® is lauded as the world’s most anticipated big-wave surfing event, bringing together 24 of the world’s most prestigious big-wave surfers on just 24 hours’ notice on any given day between January 1 and March 31, 2007. The Mavericks wave is one of the most treacherous big waves in the world, leaving few surfers able to wrangle this heavy break.

"With the spontaneity of The Mavericks Surf Contest®, it’s important for us to help fans stay up-to-date," says Managing Partner Keir J. Beadling. "The SMS ‘Greenlight’ campaign gives fans the opportunity to stay connected, finding out that the Contest has been called and that the magic will soon begin. Once given the ‘Greenlight’ alert, fans can check out the live webcast at maverickssurf.com and AT&T Park , or make their way down to Half Moon Bay."

50,000 spectators and two-million television and webcast viewers worldwide watched Mavericks’ wildcard Grant "Twiggy" Baker ride a 40 foot wave to clench the champion title last season. This year, surfers from , , and California will battle it out for this esteemed title.

Don’t forget about the Mavs Official Webstore and on-site hospitality opportunities, like the Official Contest Boat Tour. The SMS alert is yet another chance for big-wave surf fans across the globe to stay directly connected to The Mavericks Surf Contest®.
