In stark contrast to yesterday the sun was out early and the waves were up to par on the final day of the Second Annual Roxy Jam Cardiff featuring the Linda Benson's Women's World Longboard Championships presented by Schick® Quattro® for WomenT and Paul Mitchell. Hundreds lined the beach to watch the top professional women's longboarders from around the world battle it out for the title.

Jen Smith Roxy Jam Cardiff 2007 (c) ASPTostee"This event means so much to the sport of women's longboarding and I just want to thank Roxy for their continued support of the sport," said Linda Benson, President of the Women's World Longboard Tour. "This event and the tour wouldn't be happening if it wasn't for them. I hope that this tour continues to flourish and that it will inspire more women to get on a longboard and just have fun."

The final heat saw current Women's World Longboard Champion Jen Smith (Pacific Beach, Calif.), up against last year's Roxy Jam Cardiff Champion Lindsay Steinreide (Dana Point, Calif.), as well as Leah Dawson (Manoa, Hawaii) and Kaitlin Maguire (Solana Beach, Calif.). The ladies came out strong, showcasing their smooth style, footwork and noseriding skills in an exciting and close final heat. Steinriede took an early lead in the first half of the heat posting a 6.50 and a 7.00 but Jen Smith was unstoppable, earning an 8.50 and following up with a 6.90 late in the heat to secure the top position and the title. All four finalists received personal invites to the Roxy Jam Biarritz Women's World Longboard Championships in 2008.

"I took this event one heat at a time," said Smith. "I love this sport and I am excited that my family was here to watch me win this today. I hope to uphold my World Title in 2008."

A consistent performer all weekend, Megan Godinez (Kanehoe, Hawaii) was awarded the $3,000 Schick® Quattro® for WomenT Style Award for her aggressive rail grab off the top maneuver. She may have finished second in the finals but Steinriede showed all the girls she definitely knows how to "hang" and took home a $3,000 check for winning The Hansen Surfboards Longest Nose Ride award. She clocked in an impressive 7.38 second long noseride.

"I am so surprised right now," remarked Godinez. "The level of talent out here that I was up against today was so amazing, so I am honored to have been chosen for this award."

The Roxy Jam Cardiff also featured a paddleboard race and an amateur women's longboarding competition that was open to all ages including five divisions: teenie wahine (as young as five-years old), menehune, junior women, senior women and masters. Alexa Billy won the junior women final, Whitney Kirk won the senior women and Mary Schwinn won the masters finals. Finals for the teenie wahine and menehune divisions were held yesterday. The top winners from each division were awarded a new Surftech longboard. Shannon Delaney took home a Surftech paddleboard for winning the paddleboard race.

Schick® Quattro® for WomenT , Paul Mitchell, Zune, JBL and Aloha Airlines as well as local artists and vendors kept everyone happy today in the festival area, handing out free goodies to the crowd. The public was invited all weekend to participate in a surfboard raffle that featured boards by world renowned shapers, Dewey Weber, Jed Noll, Donald Takayama and more. Proceeds raised from the event's activities and surfboard raffle will be donated to the San Elijo Lagoon Conservancy to help raise community awareness about urban run-off and to supplement the Conservancy's water quality testing program.

Todd Hannigan, Ray Barbee and The Mattson 2 and others closed out the weekend at sunset with a live concert on the beach in front of a standing-room only crowd.
