Girl On: Erica Hosseini - Revisited
Dec 20 2007 / Los Angeles, CAWe last caught up with pro surfer Erica Hosseini as 2007 was beginning. Since then, she's had a great year, including notching a win back in January and, just last week, Hosseini was voted the second-most popular Girl On feature of the year for Lat34 (You can read more about that here). So it's a perfect time to catch up with Hosseini as the 20-year-old prepares for 2008 and another year competing on the ASP's World Qualifying Series, where she finished ranked 29th for the year.

Lat34: So how was your 2007? Did you get to compete as much as you had hoped?
Erica: My 2007 was awesome, I was gone for more than half of it traveling around the world following the tour, but no complaints there!
I pretty much hit all the comps, minus one or two...would have loved some better results, but it was my first full year so I had fun and got good experience and can't wait to start up '08.
Lat34: What was your most memorable moment of the year?
Erica: At the start of the year I entered the Roxy Pro Jr. in Australia, started from round one and ended up winning the contest....so that was definitely a pretty big highlight and good result for me.
Lat34: Your fellow Vans team member Karina Petroni just made the cut for the WCT in 2008 – Does that get you excited about your chances in the future?
Erica: I am super psyched for K.P (as I call her) on her success. She had a grueling year and for her to make the '08 tour is a huge accomplishment. I'll definitely be cheering her on from the sidelines...and hoping to join her for '09.
Lat34: Do you have any big plans for 2008?
Erica: I'm off to Australia at the end of January for three months...I'm pretty stoked for that! The tour starts off with a pretty big bang over in Australia so I figure I might as well stay over there and train and surf while it's sub-zero here in So. Cal, it beats a 4/3 and booties.
Lat34: I've read that you are a tech geek – what's your must-have item right now?
Erica: Oh yes...everyone knows I love my gadgets. Let's just say I will be missing my iPhone when I leave for Australia 'cause it doesn't take a sim card :(
