Show anchors new Unprotected Sets late-night programming block

Fuel TV, the 24/7 action sports lifestyle network, premieres its newest surf series “The 808” on Friday, July 6, 2007 at 10:00pm ET/PT. The seven-episode docu-series profiles members of Kauai ’s famous surf posse The Wolfpak and tells the story of how they are making their mark on the surfing world. Find out where these surfers grew up, what being Hawaiian means to them, and how this tight-knit group has become the most powerful surf crew on Oahu’s North Shore.

“Hawaii and surfing have intrigued mainstream audiences throughout the years, but seldom does Hollywood get it right,” says Shon Tomlin, FUEL TV’s VP of Programming and Development. “The recent explosion of reality TV shows based out of the Islands tells very little about Hawaiian locals or what makes them tick. The point of ‘The 808’ is to shed light on one group of surfers and native Hawaiians who have an enormous impact on the sport. The series lets the cast tell their stories in their own words. Viewers will appreciate its realism and candor.”

“The 808” stars Kala Alexander (”Blue Crush”), the charismatic figurehead of The Wolfpak. He’s joined by Pak members including jujitsu master Kai Garcia and Kai’s younger brother Chava, who was once a top high school athlete and is now a rising motocross racer and big-wave slayer. Kala’s little brother Kamalei is the stylish artist who favors the quiet life in Kauai but still travels to Oahu to rip every wave in sight. Big-wave charger and Pipeline regular Makua Rothman and his father Eddie—the co-founder of Da Hui—are both regulars on the show as well. The Wolfpak has groomed a group of younger talent including three-time World Champion Andy Irons, freesurfing phenom Bruce Irons, Quiksilver model and Teahupoo charger Danny Fuller, and ASP hopeful Dustin Barca.

"The Wolfpak has gotten a bad rap from the surf world in the past,” says Alexander. “This show will open eyes to who we are.”

“This TV show is the real deal, not glossed over like some recent TV shows based in Hawaii,” says Eddie Rothman. “I'm really proud of all of the boys. They're real professional athletes and the best surfers in the world.”

"Finally, we can show the world what the real North Shore is all about,” says Makua Rothman.

"The Wolfpak? Those are my boys!" says three-time World Champion and Wolfpak member Andy Irons.

“The 808” is a co-production between Redsquare TV and FUEL TV and was filmed from November 2006 to February 2007. Todd Jacobsen, Sean Osborne, and Brad Drew are producers for Redsquare TV, which has produced such shows as “10 Count” and “Project Detention” for FUEL TV in the past.

Look for the new “The 808” series on FUEL TV beginning July 6, 2007. Original episodes premiere on Friday nights at 10:00pm PT/1:00am ET during the Unprotected Sets programming block and re-air several times throughout the week. Promotional photos are available upon request.
