Fearless Anderson Rides For Gold
Jan 28 2007 / Aspen, CO January 27, 2007Jamie Anderson Becomes Youngest Winter X Games Gold Medalist Ever
Aspen, Colo. – Age was not a factor as 16-year old Jamie Anderson, the youngest competitor in this year’s events, laid down a victorious first run in the women’s Snowboard Slopestyle to become the youngest gold medalist in Winter X Games history. Two years younger than her closest competitor, the South Lake Tahoe, California resident has been primed to take the Slopestyle gold since winning a bronze in 2006.
“I’ve been wanting to win this forever,” Anderson said beaming at the finish. “It’s been my goal since I was like nine and I finally got it.”
Defending silver medalist, 24-year old Hana Beaman repeated her 2006 result coming in a strong second place. “I’m super stoked to be on the podium,” said Beaman, a rider out of Big Bear, California. “There’s always lots of pressure to put together the most bangin’ run you can, so I usually try to save something special if I have reserves. Then I just go for it.”
Rounding out third place on the podium was yet another local Californian, Chanelle Sladics, out of Newport Beach. At 22 years old, this is her fourth Winter X Games, her third time competing in slopestyle, but she had yet to podium. “I got my grabs, I got my spins. It was magic,” Sladics said regarding her run.
The women’s slopestyle ended with a show-off run by Anderson as she had already won the event with her first run. “Somebody at the top told me I had won so I kind of got to take a victory lap.”
