Lindsey Jacobellis And Nate Holland Tops In Snowboarder X At Winter X 12

Lindsey Jacobellis Beats Her Demons; Wins Snowboarder X

At the top of the gate before starting the final run of Women’s Snowboarder X, Lindsey Jacobellis could see video of her fall in last year’s ESPN Winter X Games event playing throughout the venue. The Snowboarder X race where gold slipped by her – again.

“It seems like I’ve seen it a thousand times,” Jacobellis said. “It’s been driving me crazy.”

At the 2006 Winter Olympics, Jacobellis fell just before the finish line in Snowboarder X, sliding her way to an unhappy silver medal. Last year’s Winter X Games was meant to be her redemption, but during the Snowboarder X Women’s Final, same thing – a fall just before the finish, and a silver medal for her trouble.

But today was different. Jacobellis surged forward during the final heat and, despite a spirited challenge from the rest of the field, held on to her lead – and didn’t fall before the finish line.

“I’ve learned that sliding across the finish line on your back isn’t the fastest way to end a race,” Jacobellis deadpanned.

“Honestly, this was just another race day,” she added. “But thank God this day is over.”

Nate Holland Takes Third Consecutive Snowboarder X Men’s Final

Twenty-nine-year-old Nate Holland cruised to his third straight win in the Snowboarder X Men’s Final today, edging out a global field that included Olympic gold medalist Seth Wescott.

Holland, leading the field in a sleek crouch, stayed clear of a late-game collision that took Wescott down.

Today’s final marked Wescott’s record-setting 11th Snowboarder X start at Winter X Games, although gold eluded him yet again.

Three-time champ Holland was exuberant after the race. “I woke up this morning at 5:30, completely amped,” he said. “I was actually shaking a little bit.”

“It could have been any of us up there today, but today was my day,” Holland said. “Winning doesn’t get old. It just gets sweeter and sweeter.”
