Girl On: Grete Eliassen Revisited

We first met freeskier Grete Eliassen at the crack of 2007 with the X Games and snow season just getting underway. Well, now a year later, what a better time than now to check in and see what's been up with Grete.

It's been a big year for Eliassen. She already had plenty of success, with at least seven first-place finishes in '04 and '05, including two X Games gold medals. Gold eluded her in 2007, but she did take first in four contests, including the US Freeskiing Open, the Nippon Open, the Orage European Freeski Open and the Ullr Girl contest at the TELUS World Ski & Snowboard Festival in April.

Perhaps most surprising, the then-20-year-old Eliassen donated her winnings of $25,000 from the Ullr Girl contest to several different charities. And while she didn't win gold at the X Games for the third straight year in a row, she did walk away with a silver -- not too bad when your main competition is Sarah Burke, who, like Eliassen, has blossomed in her career over the last few years.

Outside of competing, Eliassen was still busy in '07. She signed with the gear company HEAD USA and was honored in the Powder Magazine Video Awards for the Best Female video part for "Ski Porn."

Eliassen turned 21-years-old last September and lives in Utah, where she attends The University of Utah. She is sponsored by Head, Tecnica, Dakine, Kicker Audio, Snowbird, Park City, Alta, Windells, Nike 6.0 and Swix.
