Crispin Lipscomb Interview
Jan 29 2007 / LAAX, SwitzerlandAfter coming into the final in 11th place Crispin Lipscomb walked away with a first place win in the Burton European Open. We get the rundown on how he felt about the competition.
Lat34: So I’m here with Crispin Lipscomb, he’s just won the men’s halfpipe final… how are you feeling?
CL: Pretty good! Very stoked actually. I had a good, fun run, stomped my tricks, and I finished it off with an alley-oop three which is a personal favourite.

Lat34: So take me through your winning run.
CL: Yeah, well I started out with a front 7 in the first run, stepped it up to a ten in the 2nd but bobbled a bit on the landing, and my coach was jeering me on to pull it clean. So then in the final run it was good just to get it tidied up, and I did the frontside 10 clean, cab 7, front 9, back 9, alley-oop 3.
Lat34: You came into the final in 11th place – what was it that made the extra mileage to win this?
CL: Well, I only did the 7 in the semis, not the 10. But basically, you’ve got to make the points if you want to win! You have to beat everyone else clearly, so you have to do all the different tricks, show the judges you can do one of everything… and do it with style. That’s what you have to do, and I guess it worked out!
Lat34: What’s next for you?
CL: Well, next for me is heading back to Canada – I promised myself some quality time out on my sled riding backcountry, so that’s what I’m going to do! Sledding around, trying to get some shots and some filming done, which is the other side of this thing called snowboarding.
Lat34: What kind of sled do you have?
CL: I have a couple of sleds. Right after the Olympics I bought myself a new one as a reward, I got a 2002 Summit 800 from Skidoo, used it twice, then I went out on the road and won a brand-new Arctic Cat. So I got my buddy from Ottowa, my home town coming out, and we’re gonna go out and have a whole lot of fun!
Lat34: So is this your first trip to Europe?
CL: No, I’ve been coming over to Europe for the past five years, and I love this place. I’ve actually got a British passport, and I’ve been going over to England ever since I was a kid.
Lat34: So that’s a world snowboard title for England then…?
CL: Ha ha, yeah, one for England. This one’s for my grandfather and grandmother in Chester.
