Burke's 900 Is Worth Its Weight In Gold At Winter X 12 Ski Superpipe Finals
Jan 27 2008 / Aspen, COIn a repeat of her winning SuperPipe performance at last year’s ESPN Winter X Games, skier Sarah Burke landed a 900 on a fast pipe to best Mirjam Jaeger and a high-flying field of female tricksters.
As the reigning gold medalist in SuperPipe and an ESPY winner for Female Action Sports Athlete of the Year, Burke looked like the front runner going into the competition – but fell on her first run while attempting the 900.
Women’s SuperPipe competitors only get two attempts in the final, so the pressure was on as Burke dropped in for her second and final run.

She began with two straight airs with grabs, then landed the 900 – she was the only skier in the competition to do so – and then went into a 540 and a 720. The judges scored the run 92.00.
Mirjam Jaeger took home silver, after leading with her second run of 81.33.
The pipe was sluggish last night for the men’s final due to heavy snowfall, but tonight’s SuperPipe was super fast – something that delighted all the competitors.
“I can’t believe the pipe was so awesome,” Burke said. “It’s the best feeling, being up here again.”
“Girl’s ski is really getting better and better,” Jaeger said. “I can’t believe [Burke] busted out a 900. Everyone here better start training for next year.”
