Andreas Hatveit Wins Gold in Skiing Slopestyle Finals

Norwegian skier Andreas Hatveit definitely had something to prove coming into today's Skiing Slopestyle Final at ESPN Winter X Games 12 – he finished 7th in last year's event, well out of medal contention.

And then he crashed on his first run, earning only 36.66 from the judges.

"It was so nerve racking!  I was falling apart," Hatveit said later.  "I was just like, ‘Chill, do another practice run.'  And I landed it!  I'm stoked as can be right now."

Hatveit earned a 94.00 on his spectacular second run. That put him comfortably ahead of his closest competitor, silver medalist Jossi Wells, who then held the lead with a 90.00.

The gold medal run included a backflip, a switch 1080, and – perhaps most importantly – a switch 1260 off the Money Booter, which Hatveit landed perfectly.

"This has been a dream for me since I was like 13 years old, so this is definitely a dream come true," Hatveit said.  "I'm speechless."
