Tony Hawk Interviews Tommy Carroll

Maybe about eight years ago, I followed the championship run of a blind guy named Eddie on my favorite TV quiz show “Jeopardy.” He was able to win five shows in a row and made it to the Tournament of Champions. Eddie was given a little audible sounding earpiece that would help him indicate when he could buzz and he was able to type in his Final Jeopardy question using Braille. Eddie finished his run winning $69,000, two new cars, and made an appearance in Jeopardy’s Ultimate Tournament of Champions in 2005. Eddie was truly an inspiration and a reminder to never take anything for granted.
You might feel the same way after watching this interview starring Tommy Carroll. Tommy, like Eddie, had tumors removed from his retinas causing them to be blind. Tommy uses sound reverberation to get around on a ramp and he doesn’t just roll around, he does tricks too. It’s pretty astonishing to see.
