Shaun Fights for Top Dew Tour Standings in Portland

Shaun White is cruising into Portland in a good place - but good is never enough for Shaun, and he knows he has the opportunity to dominate.  Shaun currently sits in fourth place in the 2006 Dew Tour standings, just behind Bob Burnquist, Bucky Lasek, and Andy Macdonald in first, second and third respectively.  After placing 20th in Louisville, followed by first in Denver, Shaun has a total of 112 points.

Shaun finished the last Dew Tour in 9th place overall after not competing in three out of the five competitions.  But this year he's in it to win it and does not plan on dropping out until he has the gold.

Shaun has been competing valiantly throughout the year - but there are still plenty of top dogs out there capable of taking him out.  It must be frightening as a pro skater to watch Burnquist drop in, knowing that he might (and probably will) put together a run that will just totally destroy you, leaving you maimed & shaking on the deck of the ramp.

Of course Shaun does have something he's cooking up.  The 1080.  No one is expecting it, but just imagine how sick it would be if Shaun threw it into a run on the Dew Tour.  He's already locked down the cab 720, the same one that plagued him in Louisville, but strangely enough Shaun has never even landed a 900 on a skateboard.  He is used to doing much more on snow - but he spins right past 900 when he drops his shoulder in on the vert ramp.  So not only would a 1080 in Portland mean changing skateboard history forever, but it would also mean that Shaun would spin a full 360 over what he'd ever done before (and a full 180 more than anyone else has done).  That is some serious personal progression.

Shaun's dedication to the Dew Tour is a good sign - he's giving up valuable time on his snowboard to skate the tour, and whenever Shaun dedicates himself to something he usually comes out on top, way on top.  Portland could go either way for Shaun, with one loss (20th place) and one win on the Dew Tour so far, this could be an interesting event.  And with San Jose & Orlando still to follow, you can be sure Shaun will be out there giving it his all & trying to unseat those top three spots.
