'Life of Ryan' Episode 13 - Season Two
Apr 09 2008 / Los Angeles, CA
|
When Ryan gets home he finds his younger brother Kane skating in the backyard. Kane has become quite the little skater dude and Ryan asks him why he gave up his Razor. Turns out Kane had a dream that scooters won't get you anywhere but skateboarding well. That brings a smile to Ryan's face. When he goes back inside he talks with manager mom Gretchen about how good Kane's getting, and now it's time for Kane to smile.

Ryan visits his agent Steve who gives him an update on his schedule -- turns out Ryan will be doing a couple of shows: Ryan Seacrest and Jay Leno. Ryan thinks that it will be a good opportunity to hang out in LA for a few days and skate, getting his mind off of everything. Steve agrees, noting that Ryan's been having mood swings and not been able to enjoy what should be the best time of his life.
So Ryan decides to see Taylor and tell her that there's going to be a little space between them for awhile. It's difficult but Taylor seems to acknowledge that she's going to be second to Casey in Ryan's eyes.
Ryan heads back home and find Kane still sporting his helmet. He's really into skating now and Ryan couldn't be happier. He promises that he'll take Kane skating when he gets back from LA. Kane lets him in on another surprise: his Razor's up on EBay. Looks like he's really giving it up.
It's time for him to go up to the big city and do a session with Jereme Rogers. They both still have filming to do on their Plan B video so filmer Hoops comes by to capture a few tricks.
After their session Ryan, Jereme, Jereme's brother Kane and the Plan B filmer have dinner. Since it's LA, of course it has to be some fancy Japanese restaurant. Pretty soon during the meal conversation turns to Ryan's issues with Taylor and Casey. It seems being away from San Clemente has cleared up his mind and helped him make a decision: Casey's his friend and he's just going to have to phase Taylor out.
Ryan's LA adventure continues the next morning with Ryan Seacrest on KIIS FM. Mr "American Idol" host throws him a few softballs and most of the conversation is all about girls and dating (though Ryan does get to talk about his cancer research fundraiser). When he leaves he runs into the most of the "Idol" crew -- Paula Abdul and Randy Jackson (both labeled as Television Personalities). I guess Simon Cowell's too cool for MTV.
Then it's time with lunch with agent Steve before his appearance on Leno. Ryan tells Steve that they are planning to phase out Taylor and Steve reminds him that Taylor has been a good friend and a source of good advice over the years. So don't make a hasty choice, he says.
Ryan heads back home to watch himself on "The Tonight Show" with the rest of the family and friends (sans Taylor and Tony). His Leno-debut goes off smoothly but Ryan feels he's missing something -- some of his friends.
The next day Ryan has lunch with his crew and asks Casey flat out what his relationship is with Taylor. He claims that they're friends and it's all good. Ryan says he was planning to phase out Taylor but has changed his mind because he uses her for advice. That said, he knows that there's been too much drama and he needs to focus on skateboarding now. Casey seems to be agreeable to that.
With that figured out, Ryan hangs out with Shane and actually spends some time playing video games. The two take a break when Kane comes in to check his scooter on EBay -- turns out his scooter sold for $100. Sweet.
Then it's time to go skating at the Vans Skatepark. Jereme Rogers will be joining them and Kane is excited. Looks like a full crew (Kane, Shane, Ryan, Tony and Jereme) hit the park and, as happens when skateboarders do what they love, all is well in the world.

Random Notes from Episode 13 - Season Two
- Hardly any Shane in this episode. Wonder if he is ignoring the show on purpose or maybe he has school or something. Just weird. Especially since he missed the "Tonight Show" viewing.
- Speaking of which, during the viewing party we do see a short clip of Bruce, mom's BFF, hanging out to watch it with everyone else.
- I will say that Kane is starting to steal the show whenever he's on screen. He seems to be the most comfortable in front of the camera and does and says what he wants when he wants. It's nice.
- Is it me or did Jereme Rogers look sick and tired of Ryan talking about his personal life. Judging from Jereme's previous conversations, he has time for skating and skating -- there will be time for friends when you're dead. Seems Ryan might be leaning to that kind of thinking judging from his conversation with everyone later -- no more drama, just skating!
- Even in 90 seconds, I was able to see why I have never, nor will ever, listen to Ryan Seacrest's show on KIIS FM.
- Ditto for Jay Leno. But I bet middle America loves him. Call me when you're on Ellen DeGeneres again -- she's my type of talk show.
- So I did a little investigative reporting: Looks like there's no way a Razor scooter, even brand new, would ever sell for $100. So I theorize that it was sold as "Kane Sheckler's Razor Scooter as featured on Life of Ryan" - Kaching! Take my advice -- go out, by a Razor at a garage sale for $10 and put it on eBay and say you bought it from Kane and are reselling it. Now you will probably get a buck-fifty for it. Better yet, find an old deck and say it was Ryan's... That's got to be worth $200, easy. You're welcome.
- A little strange to see Ryan and Jereme skate with helmets on. Guess Vans Skatepark doesn't take any crap from anyone.
See you all next week.
