Well, "Life of Ryan" has officially come of age -- it has earned it's very first flashback show.  It's a brilliant programming ploy created by networks to squeeze just one more episode out of a reality series when repeats just aren't an option.

It actually started with "Survivor," then just about every reality show since has used the gimmick.  And just so it doesn't feel completely recycled producers throw in some "new" footage so everyone will watch.  Well, I can do that, too.  This feature is only 10% new.  If you want to read our recaps of older episodes you can just check out our resource guide.

Anyway, Ryan introduced each segment while Kane and Shane hit the backyard park behind him (occasionally getting some screentime).  Most of the first half of the show dealt with Ryan and Kayla's doomed relationship.  In about 10 minutes we relived the good (that first dinner), the bad (his birthday party) and the sad (breaking up is hard to do, alright...).  Then it was time to talk family and Ryan went back through Shane's appearance at the Damn AM contest and his revelation afterward that he's just not into competing.

The family time continued with a look back at Ryan and his dad, Randy.  The main arguments were ignored, with the emphasis on Ryan looking to heal the relationship through setting up a trip to Vegas where they got to hang out together.  Then there was about a minute and a half of actual skateboarding, too, compiling some Dew Tour, Plan B and just out and about at local spots.

As for the "new" footage, well, it wasn't anything too earth-shattering.  One clip showed him fooling around with his brothers in a hotel room (I want to say it was during the Orlando Dew Tour stop) while the other showed him and Tony trying to get Tony's dog out of Ryan's truck during the infamous "Babysitting Tony's Dog" episode.  Yawn.

The best part was at the end of the episode, when he introduced a sneak peek at the rest of the season's five new episodes.

So what will be shown?  What won't, seems to be the question based on what we saw.  Here's a taste:

- Ryan's moving.  But both dad and mom seem to be getting involved a little too much for his taste.  Plus Kane isn't sure how to handle it.
- The Valentine's Day Massacre at Tilly's is covered in full effect.
- Casey and Taylor's break-up causes a big set of problems and Casey and Ryan even go at it.
- Business seems to be booming for Ryan as well...

Lastly, don't forget that Ryan supports the Children's Cancer Research Fund charity and is giving away his car to help raise dough.  He wouldn't let us forget it!

Random Notes from the "Midseason Recap" Episode - Season Two

- Looks like Kane's officially a skateboarder now.  Good for him.  He's certainly got the genes.
- They still didn't use this opportunity to show Tony taking on the field at the Damn Am contest...
- Shane's rocking the Plan B shirt instead of a Joker's.  Could he be on the Plan B's AM team?  Just checked the site and they don't have it updated right now...
- What's with dropping the indoor firing range footage in the rest of the Vegas footage?  A little obvious mistake...
- That's about it.  Pretty slim pickens when it's a repeat.  But we do have five more weeks to go.

See you all next week.
