It's after Ryan and Kayla's break-up and he's meeting his dad Randy for breakfast (lunch?) at The Bagel Shack.  He's looking forward to building back up his relationship with him and then he finds out Randy has broken up with Christi, his girlfriend.   Ryan is shocked and Randy explains that there were some patterns that they were falling into were leading to an unhealthy relationship and it was better to end it and be friends.

While the news was surprising, Ryan has other concerns other than women.  He's back to home buying and it looks like he's going to put another offer on the place that he looked at the year before.  It's five bedrooms and overlooks the ocean.  It's what he wants and he decides to make the offer.  He teases Kane about not being able to come over but he's bright and remembers Ryan promised he could come over anytime.  It's clear it will be tough to have the brothers separated.

Then it's over to Tony's where he talks to Tony and Mitch.  He tells them about the house but also about dad's break-up with Christi.  Then he heads over to Casey's place and also fills him in on the news.  He's not sure what the real reason is for the break-up but he thinks there might be something more behind it.  But he's not sure what.  But he decides that he's going to take him someplace to get his mind off of Christi, the Christmas Party and the problems with court.

Ryan decides to surprise his dad at his place and tell him about a surprise trip to Vegas -- just the two of them (and an MTV film crew).  But first he has to deal with being stalked by the paparazzi that followed him from his house.  Welcome to celebrity!  His dad is stoked about the trip and it certainly seems like an opportunity for the two to bond even further.

Back home Ryan checks in with mom and lets her know how excited everyone is for the new house -- picking rooms, wall colors and more.  Then she surprises him with some bad news:  the house is off the market.  She doesn't know why, but something happened and the people took the house.  Ryan is completely bummed -- his luck is not panning out.

Then it's time for the trip to Vegas.  It's been three years since Ryan has been on a trip with his dad and he's looking forward to spending some time together.  They check into the Palms and Ryan actually can check them both in now that he's 18 (though Randy reminds him he can't have a minibar).

First up, a trip to an indoor skydiving place.  Both of them dig it, seeing what it's like to fly without actually having to put their life on the line.  Then it's time for Randy to get a new tattoo -- this one representing his kids.  He has a design picked out with praying hands that will incorporate the names of each of his sons.  Ryan has his own experience with tattoos of course, but for the first time he actually takes the needle and traces some of the lines on his dad.  Whoa!

When they're done, it's time for a father/son meal at the 9 steakhouse in the Palms.  Ryan brings up the break-up and his concern that he had something to do with it, though he actually turned out liking Christi.  It might have, his dad admits, but you can't turn back the clock.  In all, it seems that they have a great conversation and are talking on a new level.

Back home, he talks with his mom about the trip and his appreciation for his dad and how they are connecting.  Regardless of what her feelings are toward him, she is glad to see Ryan connecting with Randy, especially given the bad news about the house.

Later with his crew, Ryan fills in everyone about his trip and how it went, then breaks the news about the house.  Everyone is bummed but Ryan assures them: they will have a house by summer.  Yes, you will...

But the main thing is that he's connecting with his dad and perhaps their respective break-ups are actually making it easier for them to do so.

Random Notes from Episode Ten - Season Two

- Here's a question for you:  when does Mitch get important enough to earn a spot in the title sequence?
- Yep, Ryan's 18.  An Adult.  He can vote.  But he can't drink and play in a casino.  What else is there to do in Vegas?  Now we've found out a couple of things.  But I promise you -- his 21st birthday is going to make the Palms very, very rich (not just through what he spends, but what he loses at the tables).
- Randy's new tattoo looked pretty sick, but we never got a really good look at it.  Maybe in a future episode. - That house Ryan was looking at was absolutely insane.  FIVE BEDROOMS?  That view!   Insane.  It's too bad it came off the market because it probably was a good deal due to the terrible market right now.
- No home movie this week but we are treated to some "Remembering Christi" footage. from back in season one.  Just wait until we have about five seasons of "Life of Ryan" -- then we can have flashback footage of Kayla, Cambria and all his other former loves...
- Another good recap from Ryan on his "Life of Ryan" blog about this episode.  While the tattoo seemed to take about five minutes on camera, it really took about five hours -- no wonder they couldn't do much.  Also, they planned to golfing but it was raining hence the indoor activity.
- Ryan also revealed that he really wants another tat, perhaps like his dad's praying hands and maybe over his heart.  As if the huge-ass Sheckler on his back wasn't enough...
- Next week: So much for Caselor.  After much speculation (on my part) it looks like they are done for good.  See what happens when you don't lock lips once in two years?

See you all next week.
