The Nyjah and Sheckler Show Heats Up

Jul 13 2006 / Denver

The skaters here in Denver seem to be a completely different set of animals from the Louisville batch. They've stepped it up a notch. Maybe two notches. As expected they've all come here to win and it showed in today's skate park prelims. Despite the searing heat and the fatiguing altitude these guys are tearing it up.

During the skate park practice sessions earlier today we saw Louisville park winners Ryan Sheckler, Nyjah Huston and Jereme Rogers warming up alongside Paul Rodriquez, Chad Bartie, Kyle Berard and Billy Marks.

Probably the biggest nugget of news at the Denver Dew Tour so far is Ryan Sheckler's recent foot injury. Apparently he injured his feet last week in a non-skateboard-related incident. It definitely affected his performance, but he still placed 9th at the end of the day, so we'll see more of Sheckler throughout this weekend.

Rodolpho Ramos took first place in today's prelims with a stellar performance highlighted by a huge kickflip over the center box and a frontside 180 switch crooked grind on the flat rail. Nyjah Huston killed it at the prelims and placed second with a super strong performance. And Kyle Berard cleaned up third place by nailing a big 360 kickflip over the center box and other stylie moves like his long drawn-out smith grind on the wall.

Today's prelims are proving that anybody can take the title. But, we'll have to see. Tomorrow's the finals for park. We'll be seeing more from Eric Koston, Nilton Neves, Jereme Rogers, Chad Bartie, Tulio de Oliviera, Austen Seaholm, Paul Rodriguez, Billy Marks and more. Stay tuned.
