'Life of Ryan' Episode Seven - Season Two

So starting with Story A... Ryan takes younger brother Kane shopping for some bling. Kane gets into the whole experience, trying on various items including some pretty crazy watches (including a Rolex) and some huge necklace. Who knows what he may have ended up with, but he certainly has some expensive tastes (something the Ryan's jeweler friend was quick to recognize with glee).
Back home, Kane's somewhat expensive tastes become even more apparent as Ryan watches him get ready for school, admiring his wardrobe. Kane shows off his Kingsley shirt (bought for him by Mom) while complaining that he doesn't have any good shoes. On top of that the kid (all of eight-years-old) has a Blackberry.

Later, Ryan goes to admire the sunset with Kayla and recounts the experience of watching Kane get dressed and Kayla notes that Kane looks up to Ryan (cue flashback)... Ryan knows this and that he needs to be as positive a role model to his bro as possible.
Ryan goes to pick up Kane from his dad's and Randy gives him a little talk about (in so many words) spoiling Kane with too many expensive goods. Ryan is taken aback about it, saying he earned the money but Randy points out Kane needs to learn the value of a dollar.
And maybe Randy has a point. Kane has been acting less like a kid and more like an adult, not wanting to get his clothes dirty when going to a dogpark, etc. Ryan asks him why he's acting so grown-up. Kane doesn't know.
Later, the two are skateboarding in their backyard and Kane starts talking about changing his t-shirt because it's wet. Ryan tells him he doesn't need to change it just because it's wet. Ryan takes the opportunity to have a little heart-to-heart to try and explain that his (Ryan's) life is not that of a normal teen and that by following in his footsteps he's basically growing up too fast. In the end, Ryan just knows that he can't let his lifestyle interfere with Kane's childhood.
Story B: Ryan wants a dog. That's pretty much the whole story. It starts with Ryan talking with mom/manager Gretchen about getting a dog and while she would love a dog, she has the very adult response that it takes some responsibility and with all his traveling, etc. it's not fair to the dog. Ryan isn't having any of it and wants to buy a dog.
Soon after, when he's trying to figure out with Tony and Casey about what to do, they decide to go to a pet store and get a dog. He finds a cute puppy while there and calls his mom, telling her he bought the dog. She doesn't quite flip out but she does everything in her power to talk him out of it, going as far as to say he's being selfish.
Thanks to the reaction, Ryan doesn't buy the dog but instead borrows Tony's dog Kea (or, to be more accurate, Tony's mom's dog) as a test. Ryan is immediately given a crash course in everything needed from ear-cleaning to poop bags.
Ryan surprises his mom with the dog and she immediately suspects he got it but is happy to see it's Tony's dog. Ryan and company take the dog up to the park and get up and close with taking care of a dog pretty quickly when the dog poops. Ryan learns first hand how to pick up poop with a plastic bag...
Later Ryan gets another lesson when he wants to go skating and no one is around to take care of the dog. Shane doesn't want anything to do with it and Gretchen is basically like "I told you so." Only Kane looks ready to take care of the pup.
More lessons come when Ryan, Mitch, Tony and Kane take the dog to a dogpark where it gets dirty after playing with the other pups. Back home, he decides to give it a bath using his swimming pool and human shampoo. Ummmm. Recipe for disaster.
When all is said and done, Ryan realizes he's too busy for a dog right now and it's too much responsibility when he's so busy. So the dog will be going back to Tony's and it's an idea for another day.

Random Notes from Episode Seven - Season Two
- Might be obvious from the above, but this was my least-favorite episode of "Life of Ryan" thus far. The two stories seemed very separate and sort fo forced together and the singular appearance by Kayla makes it seem she wasn't around for the dog storyline.
- Far as I can remember, this episode featured the first-ever appearance of Ryan's Grandpa (assuming it was Gretchen's dad vs. Randy's). Dude looked pretty young for a Grandpa. Good genes for Ryan.
- So Kane's shirt is a Kingsely, the brand made famous by being worn by Brangelina's baby Shiloh (Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie to normal people). Seems like enough reason NOT to wear it if you ask me.
- Adding to the randomness of the episode, when Ryan goes to pick up Kane from Randy's he's sick (Kane, not Randy). Only mention of it.
- Actually, now that I think of it, this was more like an episode of "Rob & Big" than "Life of Ryan." Why? Well, picking up feces, dog or otherwise, is a pretty popular gimmick on that show. And washing a dog in a pool and the hilarity that ensues seems like Rob-thing to do...
- Let's hope next week is more productive... It's holiday time at the Sheckler's and discussion of his parent's divorce is imminent. Wheeeeeee.
See you all next week.
