Ryan's finally settled on the relationship front now that he and Kayla are official.  But he's not nearly settled with Dad Randy.

Ryan visits Randy at his offices and the two get into a small argument over something Ryan says.  What he said actually doesn't matter -- they turn what should just be a conversation into an escalating argument that leads to Ryan basically storming out.

Ryan vents about his problems with Randy with younger bro Shane.

"I was so over arguing and fighting over the littlest things," he says.  He admits every conversation leads to an argument.

"I don't like dealing with angry dad."

Shane isn't having too much of it.  He has no problems with Randy.

"My relationship with him is, like, solid," he says.

Ryan realizes he needs to do something, but isn't quite sure yet what it will be.

Later, Ryan goes surfing with Casey and Mitch to let them know he's officially dating Kayla.  They seem happy for him, but it's obvious Tony's not around and Casey muses that Tony's jealous of Kayla and how much time Ryan's spending with her.  As if on cue, Kayla shows up with her dog and gets to cheer from the beach while the guys surf.  When Ryan comes in, she reminds him she and Taylor are buying him and Casey dinner for winning at bowling.

Ryan comes home with Casey to get ready for the date and he finds Tony hanging out with Kane playing video games.  On top of that he realizes that he's going to miss Taco night.  Having a girlfriend takes some time...

The next day Ryan has to go to Lake Forest for a photo shoot at etnies Skatepark and he brings Casey and Tony along to try and bond.  Since the shoot's all about Ryan it quickly turns into Ryan working and Tony and Casey waiting, watching and getting bored.

It does provide an opportunity for Tony and Casey to talk about Kayla.  Casey's not sure how serious it is despite Ryan saying it's official.  Tony does admit that he's worried that Ryan's relationship will change the group dynamic but Casey thinks it could work since it does with him and Taylor.

Ryan realizes after the shoot he still needs to work on the relationship with Tony but turns his focus to his dad.  He and Randy go out to eat and Ryan is open about his wanting to get back to a positive relationship.  It's the sort of relationship Randy has with Shane and Kane and one he used to have with Ryan.  Randy is supportive and says the two should take the opportunity with Ryan in town for awhile to hang out.  Ryan likes the idea.

After the meal Ryan goes to Kayla's place and the two play pool as Ryan shares about his talk with Randy.  Kayla can't necessarily know how Ryan feels since her parents haven't been divorced, but she's still sympathetic.  Ryan thinks aloud that she has what he wants in terms of a family situation.

For their father and son bonding Randy takes Ryan to an indoor gun range.  It's hard to keep count with all the weapons tried, but Ryan at least tries two that we see -- a 9mm and a .40.  Ryan doesn't look too excited about handling some of the larger caliber weapons with a big kick, but he still smiles after he shoots off a few rounds.  Randy uses it as a way to show respect for the handguns and Ryan seems to appreciate it. Afterward, They make plans to have a dinner at dad's with everyone later in the week.

After the shooting, Ryan hangs out at a Mexican place (no surprise there) with his crew: Mitch, Tony, Taylor and Casey.  And Kayla, now.  Tony makes a joke that he and Mitch will go on a date.

Ryan shares a bit about the shooting range experience with the group but soon Kayla has to leave for work.  After she leaves Tony makes some snide comments and Ryan doesn't look like he appreciates it...

Later Ryan goes to Taylor's house and talks with her about how Tony's reacting.  She comes at it from the perspective that when someone gets in a relationship they want to spend time together, but it's a balancing act.  Ryan knows he has to figure it out.

He decides to go visit Tony and put the cards on the table.  Tony admits that he doesn't want to be left out and that the most fun he had was skating with Ryan.  Ryan tells him they'll still do that and the two seem to be headed in the right direction as they take off to go skate at Volcom's indoor skatepark.

It's Friday and Ryan takes Kane and Shane with him to dinner at Dad's house.  There he sees Randy's girlfriend, Christi, for the first time in awhile and they all site down for a family dinner.  As everyone starts talking about a previous family dinner and the fun they had, Ryan realizes he needs to spend more time with this part of his family.

Random Notes from Episode Six - Season Two

- So why did we miss out on video of the La Fondue dinner?  Watching people eat fondue is reality gold!  There's dripping cheese and chocolate, party fouls and long stabby forks.  It's a shame...
- During the photo shoot at etnies I was trying to figure out who the photo shoot was for.  There was some shooting of his Range Rover, then of him skating, then of him reading a basketball magazine.  The obvious thought is that it was etnies, but I didn't see much focus on the shoes...
- Was it just me or did that part when Ryan, Mitch and Casey were sitting on the beach about ready to surf and Casey says Tony might be jealous about the time Ryan's spending with Kayla sound totally added after the fact?
- The Old Video Clip was back, but this was a good clip thanks to it showing a fun moment when a younger Ryan hit a trick golf ball that exploded (much to his surprise).
- I'm waiting for the shoe to drop with Kayla and Ryan -- things like that can't last forever.  I'm reading into everything.  But so far so good...
- This may be a record for Mexican food meal mentions -- not only was there a taco night, but two meals at Mexican restaurant.  The only surprise that that none of them was a Wahoos...
- Next week...  Ryan gets a dog!

See you all next week.
