The fourth episode of MTV's "Life of Ryan" found the show diving deep into Ryan's relationship woes.  Not just his woes with the fairer sex, but also with his younger brother Kane.

First family...  Well, actually, screw family, first come girls it seems!  After the Dew Tour stop in Cleveland and some trips afterward, Ryan is back in town for a little while  Back in familiar surroundings, Ryan laments his lack of a girlfriend with friend Casey while they hang out at the beach.  Then the gods smile down on him in the form of Julia and a couple of her beautiful friends, who greet Ryan and Casey.

The chance meeting leads to Ryan thinking about Julia as maybe a possible girlfriend -- or at least someone he could have two or three dates with.  There's just one problem (of course) -- Julia is Tony's ex.  And not that far gone, either -- from his freshman year, apparently.  Maybe in the universe of high school two to three years is a long time, but when you talk romance, it's never too long.

Tony seems to be okay with Ryan asking Julie out, though he seems to be holding out on some information.  Ryan goes ahead and sets up a double date with himself and Julia, along with Casey and Taylor.  They have a nice dinner and then head back to the Sheckler Palace to hang.

Once there, Tony shows up with a new girl and there is definitely something in the air as the three couples take to the jacuzzi.  Whether it's Tony having an issue with Julia being there or Julia feeling weird, Ryan seems to still be having a good time and lets Tony know that he thinks Julia may be more than a friend.

All this romance is lost on little Kane, who watches the action from above.  He feels ignored, especially after Ryan has promised to do something with him the last two days and has shrugged it off as he dealt with his female trouble.

Kanes cries to his mom, who tries to explain how high-schoolers have needs that he will understand at some point.  Ryan comes back with a special surprise the next day: a trip to Legoland.

This is the greatest gift that anyone could give Kane and he revels in the roller coaster and other sights.

When it's all said and done, Kane seems happy and Ryan says he's not going to put girls in front of family again...

Random Notes from Episode Four

- Even when eating at a non-Mexican restaruant (OC Tavern) Ryan and his friends can't give up on the Mexican food.  This time, Nachos were ordered.  Yummy.  BTW, check out the OC Tavern MySpace page for the worst profile you've ever seen.
- Completely AWOL this episode: Ryan's brother Shane and Dad Randy.  Mom Gretchen gets a little airtime.
- After a couple of episodes without the Range Rover, it was back.  But the large white pickup was still in the driveway...
- I thought this would be the first time there weren't old family movies used, but they manage to fit some in before the end.
- Keeping it real, Ryan is asked for an autograph at Legoland.
- Of all episodes so far for the series, this one seemed most like its companion "The Hills" since just like that show you have three leads, each with relationships and different issues.
