'Life of Ryan' - Episode Three Recap

Apparently his dad hasn't been in the picture in terms of competitions for a long time (for at least four years, it seems) and wants to start coming again (I'm sure the TV show has nothing to do with it). Ryan wants his dad to know that these contests are his work and he won't have time to spend with him. But also gnawing at him is Christi -- not just her relationship his dad, but also the way she flags him down when he's driving away to say "I love you, too."

It shakes him up -- causes him to really get angry at her but obviously it's more about the whole situation rather than just her. He doesn't want to talk with his mom about it, instead talking with his friends and brother about the situation. Tears are even shed.
The stress causes a trip to the Volcom Skatepark to go pretty badly -- at least as it is presented. He can't land a trick to save his life.
But he has Cleveland to focus on. Coming on the trip with him are friends Tony and Casey, along with his mom and brother. They take off from Orange Country and hit Cleveland, where Ryan immediately is taken to a signing at a Circuit City for Panasonic. The fans are happy but it seems inside, Ryan is not...
After the signing he's still stressing about his family -- but he gets some sleep. The episode seems to jump forward to the finals vs. showing the rainy prelims -- but we finally get to see some shots of Ryan killing it on the park course while his parents and friend watch.

He promises that he won't let his personal life interfere with his professional life. I suspect that's a promise he won't be able to keep.
Ryan talks about the episode and what he feels about Christi now on the "Life of Ryan" blog on MTV...
Random Notes from Episode Three
- Apparently the breakfast of champions is a couple of Eggo waffles, some Mrs. Butterworth syrup and a Starbucks Frappuccino.
- Seemingly minutes after eating his waffles, Ryan is off to eat lunch at Sonny's Pizza -- hmmm. I sense some creative editing
- Ryan and his family stay at the historic Arcade in Cleveland -- a Hyatt hotel that is built on top of one of the first enclosed shopping centers in the country. It's a beautiful place -- can you guess I lived in Cleveland before?
- Again, old family movies are used. Now it's starting to feel a little forced...
- Coming next week, we get to see Kane again, who was AWOL this episode. So was Taylor, speak of the devil.
- Check out photos of Ryan in Cleveland right here...
