'Life of Ryan' Episode 15 - Season Two

May 20 2008 / Los Angeles, CA
Ryan's getting to move in and mom manager Gretchen is helping him set up utilities and decorate.  The house cost more than a million but it still needs work.  Gretchen tells him that she has a lot of stuff she's working on and that if he wants to know, she can fill him in -- but he's a little busy.

Before he moves, though, Ryan wants Kane to feel comfortable in the new house so he takes him there.  Kane finds particular joy in the bathtub but says Ryan needs an X Box. Kane is especially happy that the house is close.

Later, hanging out with Mitch and Tony, Ryan is talking about the process of moving in and begins to wonder if he's letting his mom do too much decorating.  Before he can talk to her about it he finds out that his mom has broken up with her boyfriend Bruce.  She's even gotten flowers from her ex (Ryan's Dad, Randy).  Ryan's not sure what to think since his dad recently broke up with his girlfriend and Ryan with his.

When Randy later comes to check out the house Ryan brings up the subject only to find out his dad actually saw Bruce with other women in Las Vegas and told Gretchen.  Oops.  All this leaves Ryan unsure of how his parents are getting along, but he knows he can't get in the middle of it.

He's back at his old house to finish packing and takes a last opportunity to play with Shane and Kane, wrapping Kane in tape.  But as Gretchen and his brothers help him move the last of his things into his truck, it's evident everyone is dealing with this goodbye, however how fleeting, in their own way.  And as Ryan drives off, Kane follows on his bike as far as he can go...

At his new place, Ryan's crew helps him unpack -- or at least pick up the moving carts and skate them down the hill.  Boys will be boys.

However, Ryan's mood changes once his Mom holds a meeting with Michael, the designer.  Ryan becomes visibly agitated by his mom talking about all the options and sort of taking control.  He walks out and tries to tell his mom that it's his house and he wants to make the choices.

He deals with it the best way he knows how -- to go skating.  Greg Lutzka makes and appearance to skate with Ryan, who lands some sick tricks while filming for his Plan B video.

Once that's done, he checks in with Taylor, venting a bit about his mom and inviting her to a "slumber party" to celebrate his moving in.  His next stop is to see Casey, who is finishing his packing before moving in.  Talking again about his mom and her reaction to leaving, he does know she's done a lot for him.  Then Casey brings up Bruce and Ryan tells him about the break-up and about Randy letting her know about Bruce in Vegas.  Ryan again has to remind himself to stay out of it.

Ryan stops by his old house and catches up with his mom -- she's accepting his moving out and he's okay with her helping (as long as she remembers its his house in the end).

Random Notes from Episode 15 - Season Two

- This was the season finale but no real mention of that was made.  But it still looks like a third season is likely.
- Ryan not learning about the break-up of Gretchen of Bruce was not that strange because it apparently happened when he was in Austria.
- After many episodes of no home movies, the last two had them.  It made sense though, and it was interesting to see the evolution of Gretchen.  It's the rare woman who actually looks better as she ages.
- Not sure why Lutzka was skating with Ryan since he's not on Plan B, but it was fun to watch nonetheless
- If Ryan's already stressed about keeping up the house just when moving in he's got a lot more coming, trust me.
- Season one ended with four friends on a beach...  Now there's five of them (Mitch wasn't there last season) and instead of being on the beach they're enjoying the view from the hills above on the balcony of a million dollar home.  Hmmm.  Might be a step up.

See you all next season.
