'Life of Ryan' Episode 14 - Season Two

May 20 2008 / Los Angeles, CA
The moment is here -- Ryan's finally gotten his house.  His offer has been accepted and mom manager Gretechen breaks the good news to him.  Ryan is excited but a little bummed because he has a another trip.

Ryan's first stop is to talk with Casey.  First he tells him about getting the house and second he asks if Tony should move in with them.  Ryan's not sure because Tony and him are similar personalities and that could be too much.

He decides to invite Tony along with him to visit Red Bull.  He tricks Tony by making him think they're going to Red Bull in Santa Monica.  Nope.  They're going to the HQ in Austria.  Tony flips out and can't stand it.

He tells his mom about his plan to use the trip as a test to see if he can live with Tony or not.  She knows that he's had a very busy life and not everyone is used to the kind of lifestyle and stress he has endured.  Tony certainly seems pumped to go.  "Once I step foot in Austria, I'll be a new man," Tony says.  Yes, you will.

The next day, after some rest, it's time to visit Red Bull.  Tony is slow to stir, feeling sick and saying he wants to throw up.  Ryan has his best game face on and they get to the huge HQ building for Red Bull, which just looks massive.  He and Tony get to ride on a souped-up vintage B-25 (which Tony complains about) then get a custom meal made for them by the company's master chef (Tony's not hungry).  With all of Tony's complaining Ryan wonders if he made a mistake bringing him along.

The next day Tony seems to have recovered and the two of them do some skating in Salzburg.  When they break for lunch, Tony brings up the possibility of being a roommate.  Ryan remembers all the advice he's received: to be careful about moving in with Tony.  So he doesn't commit to Tony at all, but says we'll see.

Almost as quickly as it started the trip is over and Tony realizes just how crazy Ryan's life can be.

Back home, Ryan downloads with his mom about the trip and she reminds him again that his life is really crazy and it's impossible for his friends to understand it.  But their talk shifts to the move and about Shane taking his room and everyone missing him.  His mom can't hold back and starts to cry.  He won't be far away, he reminds his mom.

Ryan's decides that he's going to start off living with Casey and maybe bring in Tony after a few months.  When he shares the news with Tony, there are no problems and he is just happy to be in the picture.

His time at home is almost over so he spends some more time skating with Kane in the backyard.  They're going to miss one another, but Kane will get Shane's room (and Shane Ryan's) so isn't that worth it?

Random Notes from Episode 14 - Season Two

- Zero Taylor and Mitch in this episode.  But since Ryan was in Austria with Tony, I guess it's understandable.
- I've been in Red Bull's US headquarters and I can easily say that looks like a one-room apartment  compared to that huge place n Austria.  That's not to say it's not a good building -- it's just in a whole different league.
- Message to Tony:  Austria is a great country to visit -- amazing food, awesome vistas, just overall great.  But one thing I never heard was someone speaking Austrian.
- It wasn't too long ago that I held a little funeral for the family home movies.  I guess I jumped the gun.  No better time than when he's moving out to bring them back.  But the clips were actually more tied to his hectic travelling schedule.
- Yes, Ryan, I agree Tony was being a wuss.  But did you only go to Austria to have a cheeseburger with some silent athletes or did you actually meet anyone of note that we weren't privy to?
- So Ryan's favorite meal is a "Sheckler Burger"?  I could have sworn it was Wahoos.
- Watching Tony talk about local cuisine in Austria was pretty funny.  Yes, Italy pizza is different than American pizza.
- Part one of two -- it's going to be a long night!
