His dad's not the only thing on his mind as Ryan comes, with Casey, to his mom with a business proposition. He wants to help his friend out by giving him a job and basically hiring him on as a personal assistant of sort. Sheckler's mom is wary and warns Casey, "You may not like what you get into."
Before he heads off to Portland, Ryan decides to try and talk to his dad about his feelings. His dad agrees that things got "a lot weird" at X Games and puts it back a bit on Ryan by saying, "Be nice to me... you just gotta chill out." Words of wisdom to live by.

Ryan and his entourage (Mom, Tony, Casey, Parker, Kane, Shane) take off for Portland and in the limo to practice Tony hears for the first time that Casey is going to act as Ryan's assistant. That cracks him up. At practice, Casey gets his first taste of assistantdom by getting to fill out a little interview as if he were Ryan. Since he's not Ryan, he tries to ask Ryan for some answers bringing the wrath of Gretchen. Oops
After practice, Ryan checks in with dad. Yep, he's still coming.
Cut to the next day, when one of Ryan's sponsors gets a nice plug: "Panasonic is so sick," Ryan syas as he and his crew discuss a signing at the Panasonic booth. Yes, sick indeed.
During the breakfast, Casey appears to misunderstand the meaning of "assistant" when Ryan asks him to get his board. I don't know if it's just me, but he seems to be a little bit of a wuss. Instead of going to get the deck, Casey storms out, leaving Tony to do the duty while Ryan makes a face at no one in particular.

It's finally time for the finals and we join the action during Ryan's run, where he falls and apparently breaking his elbow. He's in obvious pain, but cheered on by his family, including a more positive Randy, he does finish. Unfortunately, he lands in second place, dashing his hopes of winning all five Dew Tour stops in a row -- something he had vowed several times to do.
"People think that second place is okay. But not me," Sheckler says in the voice over.
That he believes this becomes pretty obvious as Sheckler lays in bed stewing about his loss. When his dad tries to support him by saying he was only within one point Ryan says second-place "sucks." We get it. You don't like being in second. At least you're honest about it.
Back in San Clemente, Ryan visits his doctor and finds out he tore a ligament and needs a cast for two weeks. He doesn't want to do it, but goes ahead and does it. He will be out in time for the next Dew Tour stop and it's more important to heal right. With the treatmena, viewers get a flashback of some of Ryan's previous injuries, including a pretty gnarly scar on his elbow. What's the point? Injuries are part of the game.
Now wearing his cast, he goes and visits Casey. Disappointed is one word that can be used to describe Ryan's feeling about Casey's job performance. It's clear that it's not going to work so the two decide to "break up" in a professional sense, though Ryan lets him know he'll always b his best friend.
After all that, Ryan seems to think he needs to talk with his dad again about things. When they talk about Ryan's reaction to finishing second his dad notes that Ryan is not "the people's champion." Ryan is actually taken a bit off guard by that. But it's a smart observation as his dad says that he's both the most loved and the most-hated skateboarder out there. So true.

Random Notes from Episode Seven
- While I am not a fan of the home movies, at least time they were interesting.
- The more I see him, the more I like Randy. He's kind of smart in a big lug sort of way.
- Dad's girlfriend was nowhere to be found this week. Suspicious? Perhaps.
- Even though Mom lives with Ryan (or I guess the other way around) for now, we see hardly anything of her. In the last few episodes Dad has been more part of the show.
- The preview for next week's episode shows Ryan talking with Tony Hawk -- actually speaking with another skateboarder? Amazing.
- I'm laying odds for when Parker and Casey break up. Let's say six months.
- Only one more new show for the season. While the show's not officially renewed, odds are good that it is coming back.
