Rodolfo Ramos Strikes Gold In Texas

Nov 02 2006 / Dallas, TX

The best street skaters from around the world attacked the park course like rabid dogs today in Dallas at the LG Action Sports Championships. German skater Tobias Albert, Dayne Brummet and Rodolfo Ramos came into Sunday’s Finals in the top three qualifying spots after Saturday’s grueling Prelims. But, it was Rodolfo Ramos who pulled out the winning run to claim 1st place and take home a check for $30,000.

The competition in Sunday’s Street Finals was brutal. Half of the skaters had medaled in big comps recently. Tobias Albert, who qualified 1st in Saturday’s Prelims, won Street in Paris at the LG Tour earlier this year. Rodolfo Ramos, who qualified 3rd in the Prelims, has been on fire all year long most recently winning a 3rd place finish in the overall race for the Dew Cup title in Orlando. Fabio Sleiman came into Sunday’s Finals qualified in 6th place after winning the LG Tour in Berlin earlier this year and the bronze at the LG Tour in Amsterdam. And Wagner Ramos, who qualified in 5th, won the LG Tour in Dallas last year in Manchester.

But, it was 21 year old Kyle Berard who held the lead from the beginning and looked like he would take home the gold in Dallas. He blasted a huge Indy air over the 14-foot long box jump and hit every transition on the course with big flowy tricks. He finished his second run with a perfect backside caballerial disaster revert on the big corner ¼ pipe. It appeared he had the win in the bag until Rodolfo Ramos hit the course.

Despite falling in the middle of his run on a frontside air off the 6-foot ¼ pipe, Rodolfo Ramos busted out the win with a barrage of technical tricks. He landed a frontside 180 crooked grind to fakie on the rail over the big channel. He pulled a frontside lien air, a hard flip backside 180 and big, big nose slide up the middle hand rail. Ramos took home $30,000, one of the biggest single prize purses in any contest.

Tobias Albert landed the 3rd place spot by sailing all over the course and hitting just about every rail, box and gap. He pulled off a giant mute air over the 14-foot box jump, a big backside melon grab and 360 flip over the middle box jump.

Dayne Brummet finished in 4th and Rodney Jones placed 5th. Fabio Sleiman had one of the biggest tricks of the day as he dropped in off the huge Marshall stack on the music stage into the skate course. His high energy run got the crowd amped and was good enough for a 6th place finish.
