Action Sports News: The Muska Gets Bounced
Aug 02 2006 / Los Angeles, CA
|
Update
The Muska Gets Bounced Pro skating bad boy and part time DJ Chad Muska has found himself a target of the paparazzi once again. If its not shuffling through former best friend's Paris and Nicole (yep that Paris and Nicole) it's getting ousted from L.A hotspots. The Muska was "escorted" out of Hyde after hitting the sauce a little too hard. Once Chad realizes he left behind his needles for his turntables he attempts to re-enter the club. Not cool with the bouncer. Bouncer gets feisty, Muska gets feisty, and the rest is history. Watch the Video> Muska Gets Bounced
went something like this:
U.S. Open of Surfing
U.S. Open of Surfing Men's Champ: Rob Machado
U.S. Open of Surfing Women's Champ: Sofia Mulanovich
Soul Bowl
Pro Division - 1st Sandro Dias
Masters - 1st Tony Mag
Grand Masters - 1st Micke Alba
Ladies - 1st Cara-Beth Burnside
Our favorite rumor from the weekend at the Soul Bowl? VB ripper Henry Gutierrez pulls a 540 and Duane Peters protested him being in the Grand Masters division. Who doesn't love a good rumor and glad to see VB still stepping it up.
Volcom Meadows Pro Invitational
The Big winner... Benji Galloway
Benji brought home the 10K grand prize from Brother's Skate park. Next day he was down at the Soul Bowl. the competitions have been treating Benji well.
L.A. We Love It!
Finally, it just wouldn't be summer without the X Games. This year is shaping up to be just as exciting as years gone by. Plenty of skaters and riders doing their thing is what we've come to expect.

July 24, 2006
Holy smokes we are back for another entry into the action sports news blog. As always lots of stuff is going down across the world of those who live to ride and ride to live. This week a few new things popped up so lets drop in on it
Getting Naked for Charity Gretchen Bleiler is stripping down for Jane Magazine's "Naked" issue. Don't think it's anything freaky they are raising money for children's charities by auctioning off the clothes they stripped out of.
Banking on the Beach Games Summer and Huntington Beach of course mean one thing and one thing only. No, not cold beverages. It's time for the Bank of the West Beach Games. The U.S. Open of Surfing holds down center stage at this mega-action sports packed week of fun in the sand and sun. We'll be picking our favorites to make a strong showing and of course providing in depth coverage of the surfing, the Soul Bowl and all the other goodness.
Sofia Steps Into Cinema The most famous person to emerge from darkest Peru since Paddington the Bear is also kicking off the 4th Annual Surf Theater Film Festival at the 2006 US Open of Surfing. Sofia: The Documentary. The film chronicles Sofia's life on the road, charging hundreds of waves that would make the toughest surfers cry and of course achieving her dream of a world title.
'That' Movie Head North! Are you ready for 'That' British Columbia? Forum is heading North of the Border to a gi-normous screen and putting heir best riders up to the front. Peter Line, Devun Walsh, JP Walker and the entire Program Posse will be in attendance. So where is it going down? Some guy named Jim won the contest for the Premiere at his parents house. So a quick heads up to Jim's parents: you guys are hosed. These premiere parties are ragers. Buy extra house insurance quick or at least call in the Mounties to regulate!
Done Gone and Did the Dew in Denver The Dew Tour stop that was about a mile high is done and gone. Pastranna ripped FMX, Shaun White proved he belongs on a skate vert ramps and overall the level of competition inched higher.
The X Games are coming! Time for Lucky number 12! That's right the X-Games are coming. Gone are the days of bungee jumping and street luging. The heads at ESPN have wised up over the years and kept their eyes on the prize. Skate, Surf, bike and moto will dominate Los Angeles once again this August. A new addition is rally car. I'm keeping my eye on Pastranna for the win and Ken Block to roll his car.
Reynolds Launches Altamont The Boss is getting his couture swerve on. No, Bruce Springsteen isn't teaming with Armani. Andrew Reynolds the lead man at Baker is kicking off Altamont clothing line. We can't wait to see what this is all abut at the next ASR. Check the promo video courtesy the crew at SkateDaily.net. While you are there that have a really cool Huff video as well.
'You Take the Skyway' Sadly, Lat34 lost a friend last weekend. A husband, father of two, Replacements fan, skater and contributing Lat34.com writer Bob Woolridge passed away after being struck by a car while skating with his son. Bob's love of action sports was far reaching and we will miss all that he brought in wisdom and words. Go snap off a few ollies, slash a few waves and say "This ones for you Bob." Our hearts go out to all of Bob's family and friends.
Got Something you think is news worthy?

World Cup, No Not Soccer
The
Mystic Skate Cup has come. More Euro skaters showed up per the norm. All in all it must have been quite the event. Ah, good times in Prague if you care who won here's
your link to all the fancy standings. Mathias was over there skating and took down a few notes in his blog.
Introducing...
Yeti's are Funny
Snowboarding in the summertime is always a good thing. A little fresh air, a little who's stepping up and a little bit of the
Dingo on the mic. That's right
Burton threw down with the
Abominable Snowjam yet again. Funny Yeti costumes, Swedish cars and Japanese halfpipe rippers made the weekend interesting.
Marc-Andre took a big fall but is recovering nicely.
The results for the winners went like this...

I Vote For..
Might as well make a full competition theme out if this one. It's ESPY time. That's right ESPN is rolling out all the athletes for an award show. Hannah Teeter, Jeremy 'Twitch' Stenberg, Shaun White and Gretchen Bleiler are all on the voting block. So, got vote now or something like that
Dew Action Sports Tour
"...meet tri-annually at a secret country mansion in Colorado, known as The Meadows."
-Stuart Mackenzie, 'So I Married an Axe Murderer'
Bad movie qoutes aside finally what looks to be a fun contest is rolling to Mammoth:
The Volcom Meadows Pro Invitational. Camping, Skating, singing the praises of JLA and the brothers skatepark....good times.

Update
Wow, what a week since we last checked in with you. We took off to go get Lucky in Kentucky at the Dew Tour. That's right we got busy Doin'' the Dew down in Louisville. But, we will get to more shameless Lat34.com plugs later on first a few interesting things.
The Verboten Wave

Riding the Eisbach wave for more on this story check out SFGate.com.
'The Benji Project'
Apparently 'The Benji Project' is ready to drop on a cable channel near you. No, this has nothing to do with a scrappy yet loveable mutt but has everything to do with surfer: Benji Weatherly. Apparently Benji has scooped up Kalani Robb, Rizal Tanjung, Yadin Nichols and Tom Carroll for a filming odyssey on the Mentawai Islands. But what makes this even more interesting is he dragged along Element's Tosh Townend, everybody's favorite jibber JP Walker and this guy who plays guitar named Jack Johnson. We hear the waves have been epic and JP is joking about switching careers. We hope he's kidding. There are still 4 rails in SLC that he hasn't hit. Finish what you started JP, finish what you started. Before you check local listings for 'The Benji Project' check these pics out:

JP Walker and the Shaka

Kalani Robb surfs better than you.

Sunsets, Surf and TC on the guitar.
It's Not Selling Out.,,, it's Buying In
Ever see a commercial that makes you say "Wait, I need to see that again." This weekend we caught a bunch of action sports commercials that looked pretty much the same until we saw two clips that kinda blew our minds.
Ah, commercials with skaters made by skaters. What a revolutionary concept. Nice one Aaron and Ty. Like Steve Miller sang "take the money and run."
Louisville Slugger
Finally, Lat34 covered the Dew Tour this weekend. Between the skating and riding it appears to be another summer of progression. While people might not be going bigger they certainly aren't dialing things back in order to get more tech. There seem to be fewer set up airs and more complete runs across the comp. Amazing what 15 large will do for incentive. So lets get into the ups and downs.
Up
Down
Ramp Troubles: Vert ramps when the coping is sticky and the seems don't line up pretty much suck. Did any skater besides Tas Pappas land a complete run in prelims?
Up
Louisville Extreme Park: Raise your hand if you ever stole wood from construction sites to build a ramp. Now laugh your ass off that cities are building massive full pipes and a whole new generation of chargers is killing it Louisville. Seeing
Chris Miller flow through the big area was nice as well.
Down
The Blog Trifecta: Lat34.com bloggers going down and out.
Zitzer had a tough time on skate vert,
Twitch bailed hard and
Parker got his bell rung. But, they rode hard and put it all out there for the readers in their own words. I call this one a break even: a down becasue of the injuries but an up because they want to share the wrold of action sports with the fans.
Up:
It's Getting Crowded: New faces popped up not just in the competitons but in the stands as well. I've never seen more people stoked to watch skaters and riders in person. That was pretty cool.

No time to waste lets get this blog rolling! In case you missed it's internet debut a few weeks back: Bob Burnquist is throwing
front flips on the Megaramp now. Looks scary even in this graniy vid.
OK, so it's not really action sports related but it's too funny to let go by. Johnny Knoxville and the Jackass crew are back with 'Number Two' this fall.
Check the trailer here. Be warned it's not work or school friendly. Slap those headphones on first. For the record we really did "LOL" on this one. That's right, we got this Internet lingo on lockdown
John parker meet body varial, body varial meet John parker. What will the Woodward crew come up with next? We aren't sure but we're a little scared. Thanks to Sophisticated Rider and John Saxtion for this nugget called the draino.
Watch John land it for the first time.
Shaun White and Dave Mirra went to the Big Apple to talk about the Dew Tour with the Today Show, Conan O'Brien and swing by MTV's TRL studio. In case you missed it here's what the controlled MTV chaos looked like:

Speaking of the gold medalist.. a Senor White pro shoe en route from
Adio. Yep, that's right Big Red is getting signature kicks. Peep the grainy snapshot. Shaun's at the window and his future is getting even brighter. Can snowboarders sell shoes?
