Jake Brown to Miss Dew Tour Finale; Aiming For LG ChampionshipsPublished: 4:50 p.m. PT by Me
Jake Brown, the Aussie skateboarder who became a household name after falling nearly 50 feet during the X Games in August, has started skatebording again, but will miss this weekend's AST Dew Tour finale in Orlando, FL. However, he's optimistic about making the LG Action Sports Championships in Dallas on November 9th.
"I just started skateboarding two days ago for the first time, really," he tells Lat34.com.
While he's riding again, Brown says not everything is back to normal. His wrist hasn't completely healed and he doesn't have the full range of motion back. Because of this, he can't land many of his normal tricks quite yet.
Much of the hoopla around the crash, which saw Brown make the rounds among talks shows, has died down and Brown is fine with that, eager to get back to competing. But that doesn't mean anyone is forgetting about the amazing slam. Blind Skateboards has come out with a new Jake Brown deck (right) commemorating the moment (below) named, very appropriately "Slam.".

Tony Hawk's Proving Ground OUT NOW!!! Published: 1:02 a.m. PT by Me
Hey you! Turn off your 'EA Skate' and listen for a little bit. Just to remind you 'Tony Hawk's Proving Grounds' is out as of yesterday. There's no pressure for you to buy it or anything like that...since if the last sentence applied to you then you probably already have enough skate games for the moment. But just in case you've been doing yardwork all day or something and totally forgot about it we thought you'd like a friendly reminder. Don't know what we can do for Carbon Monoxide leaks though. That's on you.
131 Worthwhile Video Clips (And It's Not Pornography)
Published: 12:49 a.m. PT by Me
So apparently someone at Snowboard Mag got wind of the EXPN feature on snowboarding videos (which we covered here ) because they've seemed to have done the same type of thing but about 546% better. That's because Snowboarding mag has collected some 131 teasers from different snowboarding videos, compared to EXPN's 24 clips (131/24 = 5.458), and put them all up on one page for their reader's enjoyment. The list of clips goes alphabetically starting with a clip from Variant3's '24 Stories' and ending with a clip from Naptime Film's 'Workplay'. In between you'll catch such clips like Alterna Film's 'Apples & Oranges', Ride Snowboards' 'Cut & Paste', and Four Square's 'North South East West'. Seriously if you're sitting around bored, or unemployed this is one link you do not want to pass up.

Event Notice: Mack Dawg's 2 Premieres, Ride SDS' 'Any Means' Premiere, And The Backyard Bang Rail Jam
Published: 12:19 a.m. PT by Me
Alright this is an update for those living in the Pacific Northwest (Oregon and Washington I'm looking at you):
• Up first we got Mack Dawg premiering both its 'Picture This' and 'We're People Two' snowboarding videos tomorrow. If you didn't know Mack Dawg is one of the OG production companies when it comes to making Snowboard videos. They first started with skate videos (with the seminal H-Street Video 'Hokus Pokus') but quickly moved into making exclusively snowboard videos. Well this time around they've bought us 'Picture This' featuring 16 riders, including the likes of Aaron Bittner, Andreas Wiig, Darrell Mathes, DCP, and Eero Ettala, trying to make the best out of a bad situation when they decide to make a film in the midst of one of the worst snow conditions ever. Then there's 'We're People Too' which features some up-and-coming riders like Austin Smith, Bode Merrill, Bryan Fox, Filippo Kratter, Jon Kooley, and Jordan Mendenhall in straight-forward, no frills action. The premiere(s) is an all ages event that will take place at the Showbox Theater in Seattle, Washington. Tickets are $10 with doors opening at 7pm (movie starts at 8pm). For more details on the event go here. You can also check out the trailer below...
• Next up we got Rome SDS also premiering its first feature, 'Any Means' Friday in Denver, Colorado. The video features riders like Bjorn Leines, Jesse Fox, Brendan Hayes, Jussi Tarvainen, and Marie France Roy, participating in a good ol' fashion Snowboard video full of assorted spots, a rented house, tours throughout, and everything else you expect from these guys. The premiere will be held at the Ogden Theatre, tickets are $8 with doors opening at 8pm. For more details on the event go here.
• Finally we got a non-premiere event with the Backyard Bang Rail Jam happening this Saturday in Portland, Oregon. The jam will be an event held at Portland's Ankeny Alley, an infamous backdoor exit for Portland’s oldest strip joint, known primarily for its urban camping ambiance, constant road construction and sketchy public bathroom antics. But don't worry the people at Salomon Snowboards and U.S. Outdoor Store have made it all nice with scaffolding, snow, music, Cobra Dogs, spectators, a beer garden, locals and the world’s best riders, including invitees Justin Bennee, Scotty Arnold, Jamie Anderson, Chad Otterstrom, Leanne Pelosi, Austin Smith, Ryan Thompson, and Erin Comstock among others. The event will also feature Marc Frank Montoya on the wheels of steel (I feel a case of deja vu here), and - probably of importance to you - it's FREE, so make sure you get there bright and early at 11am. For more details on the event go here. 'Picture This' Trailer

Sheckler Gets Complex on Complex
Published: 2:33 a.m. PT by Me
We told you yesterday about the great week Ryan Sheckler is having -- well, in addition to his show ending last night (Read the recap here then (check out the gallery) and that Kewl Magazine interview (yeah, that's the name of the magazine), there is one more new interview -- this one from Complex.com..
There's not much new info there, but Ryan does address his crying on his show, and his response is interesting, mainly because he curses which he pretty much never does. So that's funny.
Check it out here.
And just so we have a picture here, check out a screengrab from last night's episode.
Prediction: STDs Infiltrate The Ranks Of Snowboarding
Published: 2:02 a.m. PT by Me
For those that don't watch E! News, or Entertainment Tonight, or The Insider, or Access Hollywood, or more accurately don't live in the cultural cesspool of America (USA! USA! USA!) Lindsay Lohan is dating a new man. And this time around he's a snowboarder. His name is Riley Giles and apparently he's not afraid of certain viruses because according to the NY Daily News he's gotten Lohan thinking she's going to move to Utah to be with him. Though the last part of what I just wrote is disputable, the first part isn't because even Lohan has admitted she's dating the snowboarder (never heard of him as a snowboarder though). Just thought I ought to pass along that bit of completely useless and utterly contemptible piece of news to you. As well as attach this photo to the piece:

Video Round Up: BMXer Scotty Cranmer, More Downtown Showdown Action, Omar Hassan Gets Scalped, Deluxe Goes Down South, eS Game Of Skate World Finals, And C1RCA's Frenchman
Published: 1:59 a.m. PT by Me
• Some BMX action with Scotty Cranmer (who won BMX Park at the Toyota Challenge and will be back for Dew Tour action this weekend) pulling of some ridiculous tricks off a cargo container type thing. See it here.
• 411 has posted up some footage they collected from the Vans Downtown Showdown. So if you didn't get enough of the weekend's action you can catch various clips from the Showdown here.
• Speaking of the Vans Downown Showdown, we found this crazy clip of Omar Hassan getting scalped on one of the obstacles. Found via South of the North for the heads up. You can also check out photos here.
• Element has compiled their weekly web clips from 2007 into two separate clips. One focusing on the street skating shown throughout the year and another showing demo/contest/session footage. For the 'A Year In The Streets' clip click here, for the 'Transitions for Days' clip go here.
• The Deluxe team takes on the Dirty South with their Summer Comes Early Tour. Check out footage from the Southern stops of the tour here.
• Tacky's got footage from the eS Game Of SKATE World Finals in San Diego (held during the ASR) featuring Chris Cole, Nyjah Huston, and Mike "Mo" Capaldi. Watch the game here.

Starters For etnies Goofy Vs. Regular Surf Announced
Published: 1:49 a.m. PT by Me
Following up on the steady stream of Goofy vs. Regular news you've been getting, the starting five for the Goofy and Regular teams have been announced for the surf portion of the contest series that pops off this weekend (October 19th - 21st), and the list doesn't disappoint. For the Regulars the starters will be Taylor Knox, Dan Malloy, Cheyne Magnussen, Sunny Garcia, and Dane Reynolds while for the Goofies we got Rob Machado, Timmy Curran, Mike Todd, Mike Losness, and Tonino Benson. With legends like Machado and Garcia it looks like the contest will be on some clash of the titans type level. And given what went down at the GvR Skate I wouldn't doubt it if Tyler Hendley showed up and made everyone else look like amateurs...despite him not being a surfer and all.

Memories/Photos From The Burton World Tour

After touring this side of the Atlantic for the past couple weeks the Burton Team has made their way over to Europe to continue their world tour in promotion for 'Thanks In Advance', their newest video release, but they've left us a little memento to remember them by in the form of a photo gallery via Snowboarder Magazine. The gallery was taken during the October 4th premiere/tour stop at Denver and if features the requisite mugging for the camera and occasional drunkedness. Roxy Studio Exhibition At Laguna Beach
Published: 1:12 a.m. PT by Me
Starting tomorrow and running all the way to November 1st, Roxy Surf presents the Roxy Studio Exhibition at the Surf Gallery Laguna Beach. Think of it as an Orange County-based sequel to the first Roxy Studio Exhibition that was held at Venice Beach (the details of which we covered here). This time around the exhibition will feature works from Roxy Studio artists Jenny Bowers (London), Jeff Canham (San Francisco), Harry Daily (San Diego), among others on display and available for purchase.
The exhibition kicks off tomorrow with a special event that's open to the public which will feature appearances by Roxy team members Kassia Meador, Torah Bright, and Sarah Burke, live music by The Submarines and the PawnShop kings, and drinks/hor d'oeurves. This is definitely something you'd want to keep in mind if you're looking for some culture mixed in with your surf.

Wakeboarding Event Added To PlayStation Pro
Published: 12:50 a.m. PT by Me
Through the first four stops of the AST Dew Tour we've only seen Skateboarding, BMX, and FMX being repped by the action sports juggernaut. But when the Dew Tour rolls into Orlando this coming weekend we'll be able to catch a new discipline added to the event as the PlayStation Pro will play host to a wakeboarding rail jam. Competing in a 102 ft. long pool right outside the arena 10 riders will take on the rail jam for the hopes taking home $3,000. The event will be held Friday (October 19th) night starting at 6pm., with champion Shaun Murray among those scheduled to compete. The Rich (Bobby Martinez) Get Richer
Published: 12:22 a.m. PT by Me
As if taking home the $30,000 paycheck and the 1200 ASP WCT points from winning the Billabong Pro Mundaka wasn't enough Bobby Martinez also got to bag a custom-made $10,000 watch courtesy of Nixon for having the longest tube ride at the event. The prize is part of the Nixon WTA which awards a $10,000 watch each to the winners of four different categories spread out over four different ASP WCT Stops. Martinez was the third winner this year's Nixon WTA, as previous winners included Manoa Drollet for the heaviest wave at the Billabong Pro Tahiti and Kelly Slater for the highest heat score at the Billabong Pro J-Bay, with the next watch will go to the overall Triple Crown Winner at Oahu. Speaking of the Martinez's watch (pictured) specifically, it's adorned with two carats worth of white diamonds, rubies and emeralds colored to match the colors of the Basque flag (Mundaka is in Basque country).

Think You're Good? Oakley Wants to See You
Published: 1:28 a.m. PT by Me
Don't ask me how we missed this but on the first of this month Oakley started a new contest which is pretty cool if you think you're at all good at Moto, BMX, Mountain Biking, Skating, Skiing or Snowboarding (sorry surfers, you are out of luck).
You can find out all the details at Oakleyridersearch.com but the basics are you upload your video, people grade the video and you can win prizes. Between now and the end of March 2008, monthly prizes will be handed out to the top-rated videos for each discipline. What's that prize you ask? Just an Oakley backpack crammed with cool gear (use your imagination).
At the end of all of this (read: March 31, 2008) there will be one big prize awarded to all of the top vote-getters (and some judging applied as well) per sport. What that prize is is under wraps, but I would bet it involves travel.
And if you're really, seriously interested you need to do one of these specific sports: (i) BMX: Dirt Big Air; Street; (ii) Mountain Bike: Freeride; (iii) Motorcycle: FMX; (iv) Skate: Park; Halfpipe; Street; (v) Snowboard: Big Mountain; Freeride; Halfpipe; Slopestyle; (vi) Ski: Big Mountain; Freeride; Halfpipe; Slopestyle.
Good luck! Go here to enter.

The show is pre-taped because on Thursday, the 18th, Sheckler will be in Orlando and competing in the Skate Park Prelims for the PlayStation Pro. Saturday will be the finals, where Sheckler will try and secure Athlete of the Year honors over Jamie Bestwick.
Is that not enough for you? Well, then head on down to your local bookstore and find a copy of Kewl Magazine, It looks like our friendly neighborhood MTV reality star is this month's cover boy. As an added bonus, surfer Anastasia Ashley is featured inside as well. So enjoy all the Sheckler you can eat for now. After the Dew Tour ends, with his show off the air for awhile, you're not going to see too much of him.

Bobby Martinez Wins Billabong Pro Over BurrowPublished: 4:46 a.m. PT by Me
Bobby Martinez has won the Billabong Pro in Mundaka for the second year in a row (pictured at right in 2006), defeating Taj Burrow in an exciting final. Martinez had the advantage pretty much throughout the whole match, but Burrow did come close to catching up in the closing minutes of the match, scoring a 9.33 on one of his waves. Martinez had two 8.00+ scores, however, and had the match in hand.
Today's action started with Martinex taking on world No. 1 Mick Fanning, taking the heat fairly easily 14.17 to 11.67. Burrow took on Kelly Slater in the second semifinal and had no problem, scoring a 14.00 to 4.93.
The win by Martinez leaves the door open for Fanning to clinch the world title in Brazil with a win or poor showings by Burrow and Slater.

Emerica's Wild Ride Episode 5 & 6 Are Up
Published: 1:50 a.m. PT by Me
Similar to how the actual tour went, Emerica's Wild Ride on VBS' Epicly Later'd just keeps chugging along as episodes 5 and 6 of the documentary/chronicle/skate video have been broadcast. Episode 5 features the team taking on a Sacramento skatepark, and a flashback to Kevin "Spanky" Long's knee surgery earlier this year. On episode 6 you have the lowdown on Emerica's flow skater Peter Hackett who's kinda like some Joe Pesci talking 13 year-old who had he not been a good skater woulda just been a random big mouth working at your local auto repair.

Snowboarding's Downtown
Published: 1:41 a.m. PT by Me
While you're paying attention to the Vans Downtown Showdown this weekend keep in mind the other Downtown ___down coming up with the 2nd Annual Downtown Throwdown Snowboard Railjam happening in Seattle in a couple weeks. As you can clearly see (or read) this Downtown event will be a striclty snowboard affair happening at the traditionally football-based field in that other west coast city. With riders like Scott Stevens, Zac Marben, Ben Bogart, Johnny Miller, Travis Kennedy, Andrew Geeves, Chris Beresford, Austin Hironaka and Pat Milbery showing up for a shot at the $5000 purse it's definitely worth keeping on your calendar, especially since attendance is FREE, which we all know is a major selling point. The event starts at 8pm on October 27th so you'll have plenty of time to party up that Friday night and still make it out for the "Throwdown".
For more info on the event check the calendar entry here.
Sean Malto's Exciting EighteenthPublished: 1:15 a.m. PT by Me
After Shaun White and Danny Kass, we just feel compelled to put up any and all pictures we find from skaters'/snowboarders'/surfers' birthdays. This time around it's Sean Malto's turn, courtesy of The Skateboard Mag's blog, as he celebrated his 18th birthday weeks ago while in his hometown of Kansas City, Kansas. This time around there wasn't a crazy alcohol infested bash but rather a nice homely affair it seems with a cake that could only have been the doing of loving parents (we think). There was also plenty of teenage hijinx thrown in to boot. Get an idea of what we mean over at The Skateboard Mag's blog entry (about half way down) for their trip to Kansas City, Kansas.
Tracking Back To The Frontline Rail Jam
Published: 12:59 a.m. PT by Me
We mentioned the Frontline Railjam happening about a week ago. We also kidded you about how it was mostly likely that you weren't going to be there since it was held in Stockholm, Sweden. We mentioned the riders that would be there including Marc Frank Montoya, but a bunch of other Euros that you might not have heard about. It seemed to be irrelevant to you back then. In that case this entry might end up being a thorn in your side, because we've got highlights from all the way over there, from all the way back then courtesy Tackyworld.com. As you can see from the gallery if you were thinking the event was just a throwaway one-off thing, then you were wrong as around 20,000 people showed up to see some urban snowboarding, along with Marc Frank Montoya skating on a mini ramp and Marc Frank Montoya putting in work on the turntables to top it off. You would think the event was all about Marc Frank Montoya right? Again you're wrong, I'm just to lazy to type out Scandanavian last names.
For highlights from the Frontline Railjam in Stockholm check out the photo gallery here and the video footage here.
EXPN Compilation Fools Viewers Into Thinking They'd Get Porn
Published: 12:33 a.m. PT by Me
Thank god for other people's work. While we've been pulling together various skate clips for y'all to get in one easy-access place these past few weeks, EXPN has been doing the same thing with clips from various snowboarding videos and titling it 'Polar Porn: The '07 Crop'. Those sneaky bastards, who would have thought to attract attention to their product by using the allure of women's bodies? Definitely not the whole history of commercial marketing.
But back to EXPN, among the videos they've compiled they've got the excellent documentary on Craig Kelly, 'Let It Ride', Mongo Pro's 'Constant Struggle' featuring Louis Vito, Capita's 'First Kiss', two different Mack Dawg Productions, 'We're People, Too' and 'Catch The Vapors', and a crapload of others. Had I not stumbled on to this goldmine I might have had to do a lot more legwork/fingerwork and come across some real porn, which would've in turn cancelled out further legwork.
To get access to the above mentioned crapload head over to the EXPN article here.
Transworld Surf Magazine Needs Help Scoping Out Girls
Published: 12:09 a.m. PT by Me
Even though we're still in the midst of October it's never too late to start thinking/fantasizing about who the next possible Miss Transworld October could be. Luckily Transworld Surf is actually making that thought process legitimate because they DO actually have a Miss Transworld October. And the best part of it is you can be a part of it too since readers/viewers can submit "candidates" via email. The candidate would have to include info including name, age, hometown, and a brief description, so that means you can't just send in pictures you snapped of your neighbors unknowingly and unwillingly to tranworldsurf@gmail.com. It would all have to be on the up-and-up.

To get an idea of what Transworld is looking for either look up or check out some recent October submissions Transworld has put up here.

Ballots Open For Playstation's Trick Of The Year
Published: 3:45 p.m. PT by Me
Alright it's time to exercise your right to vote...for the Playstation's Trick Of The Year from the AST Dew Tour. The polls just opened for the vote and they won't close until Sunday so there should be no excuse for you not to do so. The nominees for the award come from the different Trick Of The Week winners from each previous Dew Tour stop, which include Zack Warden with his tailwhip to whip back from the Panasonic Open, Francisco Zurita's triple tailwhip from the Right Guard Open, Mike Spinner with his 1080 from the Vans Invitational, and Cameron White's Barspin Tailwhip Backflip from the Toyota Challenge (wait what's with the BMX bias). The winner of the award, which will be broadcast live from the Playstation Pro Sunday, October 21st, will pocket $10,000 so in this case your vote counts as opposed for that time you voted for Stovetop over meatloaf for Monday night dinner. To vote head to the Dew Tour website where you'll also be able to see clips of the tricks in case you had missed them. And also keep in mind the first Thursday of every November, if you need to ask why then forget about it...don't vote for anything.
Billabong Pro Semifinals Set, Fanning Gets To Wait Another Day

Talk about suspense, after being this close to securing the overall ASP World Title with two events left to go current ASP ratings leader Mick Fanning is going to have to wait until after Spain to possibly take to the 2007 ASP throne. That's because despite Fanning advancing to the Semifinals at the Billabong Pro Mundaka yesterday, the two surfers that are still within arms length of Fanning in terms of ASP points, Kelly Slater and Taj Burrow, are also on to the Semifinals thereby blocking Fanning from snatching the point advantage he needed to take the crown.
All of this happened in a day that saw the final heats of Round 4 along with the Quarterfinals run to completion. In the quarterfinals current ASP #2 Slater defeated Jeremey Flores while Burrow, who's currently #3 on the leaderboard, knocked off Bebe Durbidge setting up a Semifinal heat where both will face off against each other for the 16th time (Slater has won 10 of the previous 15 matchups) for a chance to possibly face Fanning in the finals. Meanwhile Fanning took out Taylor Knox in his Quarterfinal heat setting up a Semifinal matchup agains defending Mundaka champ Bobby Martinez, who topped Phil MacDonald in the Quarterfinals. In speaking of the day's developments and his overall perspective on his World Title hunt Fanning said, "You have to keep the pressure on, it’s not over yet. I’ve got to keep getting through heats, get another good result and try to finish strong here....That’s surfing, it just comes down to the end.”

The Bonanza That is Jereme RogersPublished: 2:01 a.m. PT by Me
This is just something that's too good to be missed. Following in the footsteps of his DVS brethren, Daewon Song, Jereme Rogers has gotten the "Echo" treatment on his latest commercial for DVS, but with a twist (check out the different tricks on the rail). If you hadn't seen the Daewon commercial and don't know what I mean by "Echo" it's this effect where they show multiple shots from a trick inside a video shot. Awww crap it's just to hard to put into words. Seriously just take a look at the Jereme Rogers commercial for yourself below and also get a refresher on the Daewon commercial that started it all here.
And another thing Plan B also has some footage of Mr. Rogers up on their website. Check that out right here.

As we come up on the premiere Birdhouse's eagerly anticipated "The Beginning" the company that's home to the Hawk, as well as Shaun White has released a new 30 second trailer for the film. The film actually premieres today but that's an invite only type thing (meaning you probably won't be catching it tonight) so you'll have to wait until Birdhouse unleashes its premiere tour for the film throughout the country starting next week, the details of which can be found here.

Lifestyle Working Celebrity Challenge At The Beachley Classic
Published: 1:59 a.m. PT by Me
Something to keep note of: this Sunday as part of the NAB Beachley Classic (going on now) they'll be holding the Lifestyle Working Celebrity Challenge. It's one of those surfing-based charity events which will feature of course Layne Beachley herself and a whole bevy of Australian celebrities (remember the Beachley Classic is held at Manly Beach in Australia) including Megan Gale, Guy Leech, Toby Rand of Rockstar Supernova fame and Big Brother's Gretel Killeen. Read the details about it here. Now you might be like, "Yo I'm not from Australia I don't know any of those 'celebrities' and quite frankly I don't care. Now why are you even bringing this up???" My answer would then be, "Ummm have you ever seen Megan Gale???" At which point you would say "No".
At which point I would post this picture:
Drunk Driving on a Skateboard?
Published: 1:29 a.m. PT by Me
Alright this right here was to good to be passed up. In what seems like one of the biggest blunders in verb usage history an Australian man has been convicted of drunk driving......on a skateboard. It seems Corey Mitchell Symes, a 22 year-old apprentice carpenter, was going past traffic lights and swerving between lanes at high speeds while clutching an open can of rum. After police stopped him they tested his BAC and noticed it was a .095 (about equivalent to a Keith Richards' breakfast snack) and booked him. At the courthouse Symes pleaded guilty and was quickly convicted and fined for $300AUS.
I really don't know what to say about this, seriously. At what point did Symes not consider pulling out a standard dictionary and pointing out the uses of the verb "to drive"? I understand that he was probably breaking a law either way, but if they were just charging him for drunk driving I would expect remedial English would have been a bullet-proof defense. Sadly Symes is only an apprentice carpenter and isn't sophisticated enough to deal with legal constructs or say early childhood development (mainly language development). So all of this just makes for a hilariously sad story he can pass on to his kids, who we presume he won't be reading to.

Event Bulletin: Active's Yellow Snow JamPublished: 1:11 a.m. PT by Me
If you're living in Southern California you can stop off at the Active Store in Mission Viejo to check out the Yellow Snow Jam this Sunday from 2pm to 6pm. The event promises 10 tons of snow, a rail, cheerleaders (don't know how they'll work that), yellow snow cones, free gear, and a "Make It Rain" contest. Of course this isn't an event just to have an event as it's tied in with different sales going on at the store including 40-60% off last season's snowboarding leftovers, as well as a free Bear Mountain lift ticket for the purchase of a complete snow setup. We suggest if you're hard up on cash just head on out there for the snowcones, cheerleaders, and the chance to nail your stupid little brother with a snowball for taking away all your parent's loving attention ever since "that day". Sound good to me.

Big Black Broadcasts Baby Birthing Bnews
Published: 12:22 a.m. PT by Me
In this case the puns on the name just make themselves. MTV's 'Rob & Big' star Chris "Big Black" Boykin has announced that he is going to be a daddy. People Magazine reports that the baby will be a girl and has an expected landing time of somewhere around February. In speaking to the magazine Big Black stated that he's going to be an excellent father because he plans to "learn on the fly." At this point after watching episodes of 'Rob & Big' we're pretty sure "on the fly" means buying a mini-horse that'll piss all over the baby's sofa, playing the role of a male stripper to put the baby to sleep, and building a random-ass time machine as a toy for the baby. The baby's ratings will soar through the roof. For the People Magazine's story on Big Black's soon to be bundle of joy click the link here.
Ricky Carmichael: The End Of An Era?
Published: 12:01 a.m. PT by Me
Straight from the Never-Saw-That-Coming files is word that Motorcross legend Ricky Carmichael has pulled out of the U.S. Open of Supercross this weekend. Carmichael is essentially being forced out of the sport he loves due to a medical condition called Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS) that he's been diagnosed with. CFS is exactly what it sounds like as it's a disorder that causes profound fatigue that may be worsened by continued physical and mental activity. On account of this Carmichael might actually be done for his career as it was planned, prior to the CFS diagnosis, that the U.S. Open would be one of his final competitions, which is sad news to hear. For more about the story including quotes from Carmichael himself click here.

Woods, Redman-Carr Eliminated From Beachley Classic
Published: 1:49 a.m. PT by Me
The Beachley Classic got to run yesterday and round two was completed. Eliminated from the contest were World No. 6 Rebecca Woods (AUS) and World No. 9 Melanie Redman-Carr (AUS), both of whom finished in equal 17th. For Redman-Carr, it will be her final contest of 2007 as she is taking off the rest of the season because she is pregnant.
"It’s very exciting, something I’ve never experienced before," Redman-Carr said. "I’m pretty nervous but I am looking forward to it."
Redman-Carr also noted she's not quite herself at this time.
"I feel a little slow and heavy and it’s difficult with the weight distribution," she said. "It is sort of a novelty and quite a nice thing to be able to tell my child one day. I would have liked to have made it through at least one more round, especially since this event could be my last."
Earlier this season (in July) Redman-Carr defeated Woods in the Mr. Price Pro Finals -- a WQS event.
Round three is expected to take place today. Here are the matches:
NAB Beachley Classic Round 3 Match-ups:
Heat 1: Silvana Lima (BRA) vs Rosy Hodge (ZAF)

Stereo Skateboards To Make Your Wallets/Moms Happy
Published: 1:15 a.m. PT by Me
This is something you're gonna thank us for. This Saturday head to the Stereo Skateboards warehouse to get your Blue Light Special on when Stereo owner Chris Pastras holds his Crazy Chris' Stereo Warehouse Sale. In true Crazy Gideon-like fashion (if you don't know Crazy Gideon is this "crazy" dude in Los Angeles that holds "crazy" deals at his electronics store with like DVD players for $15 type deals with "crazy" cable-access type commercials) Stereo will be offering 50-70% off items at the warehouse with decks going for $25 and tshirts going for $5 and up. There'll also be some type of outdoor BBQ and Jam with food and drinks for those who make purchases (and possibly everyone else). The sale/event will start at 11am and go until whenever "Crazy Chris" wants it to end, so make sure you get there early just in case "Crazy" means "Prompt" in their universe. Check the flyer for the location.

Athlete Lineup For The Esurance Icer Air Announced
Published: 12:56 a.m. PT by Me
Though the Esurance Icer Air doesn't quite sound like an event for the action sports (it actually sounds like a name of a gum...a gum sponsored by an insurance company) it is. It's an event that unites the disciplines of Snowboarding, Skateboarding, BMX, Skiing, Motocross, Wakeboarding in one huge competitive bonanza that's going to be held November 2nd - 3rd at the famed AT&T Park in San Francisco (home of the SF Giants).
It's also an event that just announced the first wave of athletes that are going to be attending. Among the scheduled attendees for snowboarding there will be Andy Finch, Chas Guldemond, Andreas Wiig, and Mason Aguirre among others, for skateboarding the likes of Pierre Luc Gagnon, Mike Crum, Danny Mayer, and Neil Hendrix will be there, and for skiing there will be Simon Dumont, TJ Schiller, Jon Olsson, Peter Olenick and others. To top it all off there will be music from Mos Def and Talib Kweli (as Black Star), not to mention the fact that the event will feature a world class course designed by David Ny, shaper of past Winter Olympic jumps. Not bad for something I thought I would be able to chew the first time I heard about it.
To be fair, this is the third year of the event and last year featured a pretty crazy event (we have all the highlights here). It was something to watch -- though there some pretty gnarly slams, too.

DC To Release Mtn.Lab
Published: 12:19 a.m. PT by Me
This month DC Shoes will release their long awaited (it's only been 2 years though) Mtn.Lab 1.5 snowboard video. Funny thing about the video, it was was supposed to be named Mtn.Lab 2.0, in line with it being the sequel to the first Mtn.Lab video. But due to less than stellar weather conditions in Utah (where the DC Mountain Lab resort/hideaway/lodge is located at) for the last season (some might blame global warming) the creators this time around came up with the idea to just stamp on 1.5 instead. The video features all riders from the DC snowboard team along with their am riders like Torstein Horgmo, Devun Walsh, Lauri Heiskari, Todd Richards, Travis Rice, Eddie Wall, Bjorn Lienes, and others, travelling to places such as Chile, Finland, B.C. Canada, Sweden, Tahoe, Colorado, New Zealand, and of course DC's remodelled Mountain Lab in Utah to get the best footage suitable for a video that's named 1.5.
Product Update: Element's Flat Bar
Published: 12:02 a.m. PT by Cary
I remember when I was skating in the early 90s and me and my friends wanted something we could practice boardslides and grinds on that wasn't our friendly neighborhood curb (we didn't have cars yet). So we built these lame railslides with long pieces of wood and PVC piping that we would put on our street with the hopes that it would prepare us for skating rails later on in life. It was a pipe (no pun) dream as the contraptions were never stable and always liable to break when our fat friend got on it. I think the best thing we ever did on it was light it up with gasoline and do some Criss Angel stunts on it (minus the Jersey accent and glam band wardrobe).

Why do I bring this up? Well in my never-ending mission to find more reasons to hate the younger generation I came across a modern day version of our deathstick, except this one works: the new Element Flatbar. Just looking at the product makes me curse those lost hours we spent making our rail slides. The thing looks completely sturdy and skate-able, and features pretty little Element stickers on them. Plus watching different skaters from the Element team try it out without the rail budging or flipping over makes the Flatbar just that much more attractive. It's 6' long with an extra wide 4" flat grind rail, has three height settings from 10" to 13", and it's breaking my heart. But if you're interested check out the product at the Element Website, along with video of the Element team trying it out, it's going for around $109 so keep that in mind.
