“I’ve known Josh for years,” Mirra stated. “Haley is very important to him so I wanted to support Josh and honor Haley at the same time. Her courage to keep going and keep helping people inspires me.”

You May Want to Stay Out of NicaraguaPublished: 1:09 a.m. PT by Greg
Speaking of Outside magazine (see below), both it and Men's Journal have stories about magazine publisher/surfer Eric Volz, who in February was convicted of murder in Nicaragua despite questionable evidence to the contrary.
Magazines being a little behind the times, they're just picking up on the story, but friends and family are working feverishly online to find any way to help get him freed. It's not something that seems like it will be at all easy to do and they can use all the help they can get.
Learn more about his story and visit the MySpace page to provide some support.
Laird Hamilton - Physically, Mentally RippedPublished: 12:52 a.m. PT by Greg
Laird Hamilton is featured on the cover of this month's Outside magazine. There's an interview inside, but there's also a good podcast on the Outside website with him. Among some of the nuggets you will learn: He doesn't weigh his food (um, that's good), he doesn't like American coffee and thinks fear is a great motivator.
A lot about his health, not much about his hot wife Gabrielle Reece, but the focus of the interview was how to stay fit, so I guess it's okay.

Into the Minds of Train Surfers
Published: 12:11 a.m. PT by Greg
Occasionally we come across a story about a death of some kid while train surfing, and when we do, the story is normally from South Africa, where it's become some sort of rite of passage for the young kids from in and around Soweto. Last year 18 deaths were reported and there have been five so far this year.
I came across this story featuring short interviews with five "surfers" that gives a little bit of an insight into what's going on in their minds. It's amazing how they think nothing about putting their lines on the line almost every day, riding trains and ducking below electrical lines that could kill them in an instant.
It's fascinating, but also incredibly sad. Read the full story.

Helicopter Saves Surfers From Great White
Published: 12:42 a.m. PT by Me
South Africa is historically known for their shark attacks. And had a helicopter not literally flown in-between a group of five surfers and a Great White the helicopter spotted above swimming right towards them, this story would have read, "Great White Shark Chomps Down on Five Surfers."
Any video footage of this? Talk about a heli-raiser!
