New Global Warming Study Reveals Contrast in Hurricanes
Published: 2:59 p.m. PT by Me

Perhaps the one bright side to the increase in hurricanes due to global warming was the fact that the east coast could actually get some decent surf once in a blue moon. Now a new study raises the possibility that global warming could make it harder for hurricanes to form.

I'm really confused.

Recently we told you about a surfer who was killed by the strong surf off the coast of Oregon. On Tuesday, the Coast Guard was called in to rescue a surfer who was stranded on a rock 100 yards off shore.

Complete props to Oregon surfers. And a stink eye, because you're all completely nuts.

Car Surfing Driver to Be Sentenced

Published: 12:19 a.m. PT by Me

Not that car surfing is all that common (thankfully), but you rarely hear about the drivers -- only the people who are killed or maimed while doing it. More than a year after one such incident in New Zealand, a woman driver is about to sentenced after the person "surfing" on her car fell off and was killed. The driver, Jessie Scot, was found guilty yesterday, of causing the death of Jamie Mackay through dangerous driving.

Apparently Mackay was an "experienced" car surfer -- whatever that means -- so the argument was he basically committed suicide and intentionally fell off the roof because he was suffering from multiple sclerosis. Seems that argument didn't sway the court.

xdance_mark_rochelle_01First Hand: "The Doctor, The Tornado & The Kentucky Kid," Free Screening Recap
Published: 6:23 p.m. PT by Me

The X-Dance Action Sports Film Festival continued its monthly free screening series Tuesday night with the MotoGP documentary “The Doctor, The Tornado & The Kentucky Kid,” a film about the 2005 Red Bull U.S. Grand Prix at Laguna Seca, CA -- the biggest motorcycle race in American history.

The film follows world class Moto Grand Prix superstars Valentino Rossi - “The Doctor,” Colin Edwards - “The Tornado” and Nicky Hayden – “The Kentucky Kid” as they prepared and competed at the 2005 Grand Prix. Only a handful of riders are actually skilled enough to handle MotoGP, and this film shows why. More than 15 cameras were used in filming, including two cameras mounted on multiple motorcycles, and the frenetic pace set by the rocking soundtrack and editing by Rochelle Watson (pictured with Director Mark Neale, right) helped the film win best editing at the 2007 X-Dance Action Sports Film Festival which took place in Park City, UT in January.

The climax of the race features "Kentucky Kid" Nicky Hayden defy the critics and after two seasons of struggles and setbacks take his maiden grand prix victory under the greatest imaginable pressure. Actor Ewan McGregor narrates.

X-Dance Director Brian Wimmer introduced Director Mark Neale after the screening and Neale answered fan questions and talked about his next project, a scripted film that he wrote for Ewan McGregor to star in as a motorcycle racer.

The X-Dance Hollywood Screening series is held each month at Cinespace in Hollywood, CA, and is free to the public. Look soon for May's film.

Intoxicated 16 Year-Old Airlifted Off Beach

An intoxicated 16 year-old, who had been partying with friends beneath Sunset Cliffs in San Diego, was reportedly too intoxicated to walk up the steep path to the street.

Judging by the picture, I'm guessing chunky boy's weight may have had something to do with it as well. Just make sure the boozin' minor doesn't get on a surfboard anytime soon.

So it looks as though you don't have to worry about just sharks anymore. A 13-year-old girl was attacked north of Perth, Australia, as she was being towed by a boat and surfed behind. The huge sea lion leapt out of the ocean and hit her full on, breaking her jaw and dislodging three teeth.

The attack is extremely unusual -- but don't tell that to the girl...

dave_mirra_gprix07_160x130Dave Mirra Wins Toyota Pro/Celeb Race, Bucky Lasek Sixth
Published: 1:43 a.m. PT by Me

Dave Mirra took the top spot of a crash-shortened Toyota Pro/Celebrity Race in Long Beach Saturday, part of the Toyota Grand Prix. Bucky Lasek, who won last year, finished sixth. Mirra was unable to finish last year's race, but was considered the favorite this year.

The race was shortened when billionaire George Lucas crashed into the car of Annamarie Dean!, a mother of four from Naples who bid $50,000 in a charity auction to participate in the race.

Because of the crash, a red flag was thrown and the race ultimately ended because of time constraints. Lasek, riding in the "Pro" category, had to start 20 seconds behind the celebrities.

Official results: (c - celebrity, p - pro)
