The top FMX riders in the world descended upon Pomona Saturday (Sept. 29) to compete in the LG FMX World Championships and when it was all said and done Jeremy "Twitch" Stenberg took the top spot in the podium.  It was the first time in the event's five-year history that Nate Adams didn't win, with Adams taking third-place.  Swiss rider Mat Rebeaud took second.

The night's action was marred by a bad accident suffered by Adam Jones in the semifinals against Twitch.  Jones crashed at the end of a jump and could not get up, though he was talking and coherent.  An accident came onto the course to take him away as other concerned riders watched.

In the three-man final, Adams was unable to complete his run due to what appeared equipment malfunction.  Adams later confessed that he thought his tire had gone flat.

Even so, Twitch enjoyed the victory.

"Nate had some good runs," Twtich told Lat34.  "It comes and goes like that. I've been in that position.  He's been in that position.  So, I'll take it."

More surprising to anyone who watched the event was that Twitch was riding with a broken ankle he suffered last week at the AST Dew Tour stop in Salt Lake City.

"Before the weekend started, I wasn't even sure if I was going to eb able to ride or not," he said.  "I only rode one day of practice and that was today.  Everything just came together for me...  I always look forward to riding LG.   Last year I was hurt.  Every other year I've gotten second.  I finally got gold."

Twitch said he had his ankle taped up for the event but would be going home where he would undergo some physical therapy and perhaps wear a cast for a short while.  However, he will be in Orlando for the final AST Dew Tour stop in a few weeks.

Mike Mason, one of last year's finalists, faced Rebeaud in the semi-finals.  Jeremy Lusk was the other semifinalist and went up against Nate Adams.

Other riders who were eliminated in the first round included Wiley Fullmer (vs. Adam Jones), Beau Bamburg (vs. Twitch), Myles Richmond (vs. Mat Rebeaud), Todd Potter (vs. Jeremy Lusk), Takayuki Higashino (vs. Mike Mason) and André Villa (vs. Nate Adams).

For his win, Twtich took home $30,000 and got some love from his wife, Susie, and mother, Rose, who were on hand to cheer him on.
