Tobias Albert Stomps The Comp In Dallas

Nov 01 2006 / Dallas, TX

Sixteen of the best skaters from around the world showed up in Dallas at the LG Action Sports Championships Street Prelims Saturday. The top 10 riders from the Prelims will go on to compete for a $30,000 check in Sunday’s Finals. Greg Lutzka, Billy Marks, Kyle Berard, Rodolfo Ramos and last year’s LG Skate Street winner Wagner Ramos all came to Dallas looking to win.

Tobias Albert, who won Street in Paris at the LG Tour earlier this year, qualified 1st for Sunday’s Finals with a super-fast paced run. He sailed all over the course hitting just about every rail, box and gap. One of his biggest tricks of the day was a picture-perfect mute air to fakie off the big wall. Dayne Brummet had a slow first run, but picked it up his second time out and nailed a big run to secure the 2nd place qualifying position.

And in 3rd place at Saturday’s Street Prelims was Rodolfo Ramos, the Brazilian who has been on fire all year long culminating in a 3rd place finish in the overall race for the Dew Cup title recently in Orlando.

Kyle Berard, Wagner Ramos, Greg Lutzka, Rodney Jones, Ronnie Creager, Fabio Sleiman and Jose Manual Roura all finished in the top ten and qualified for Sunday’s Street Finals. Berard looked super smooth as usual throwing down big floating ollies all over the course including a big backside caballerial to disaster on the big wall. Wagner Ramos skated super well, showing people why he won last year at the LG Tour. His performance was enough for 5th place.

Greg Lutzka, who’s been making a name for himself as a pro since the wee age of 16, cruised through two solid runs highlighted by a front side alley oop and a front side kickflip 180 nose grind down the flat rail. Rodney Jones celebrated his 28th birthday yesterday and a 7th place qualifying finish today. The old man, known for stalefish grabs landed several variations including a sweet stalefish to fakie on the big wall.

Ronnie Creager, Fabio Sleiman and Jose Manual Roura rounded out the last qualifying positions for Sunday’s Finals and will be looking for podium finishes and a chance at the $30,000 prize for first. Stay tuned for Finals results Sunday, October 29.
