LG FMX Worlds To Pummel Pomona
Oct 01 2006 / Los Angeles, CA They say that at the end of the world the sky will be filled with the 4 riders of the apocalypse. Well, the apocalypse is coming to L.A. this weekend in the form of the 2006 LG FMX World Championships and there are actually 15 riders who will wreak havoc on each other to claim the ultimate title and their share of the $100,000 prize purse. That’s right, 15 of the world’s biggest names in FMX will descend upon glorious Pomona, CA at the L.A. County Fair Saturday night, September 30. Fewer than half of last year’s qualifiers have made it into this year’s event, which changes the entire lineup and will make for some heated competition. Nate Adams, Mike Mason, Ronnie Renner, Robbie Maddison are among the big guns who are pre-qualified for this monster event in the search for the World Champion title.

Nate “the Destroyer” Adams, 3-time LG Action Sports Championship Gold Medalist and last year’s winner, is favored to take gold. But there are no promises in this sport. Adams, who has over seven X Games medals and was one of the first riders to land a backflip to no-handed lander in competition, is looking for blood after a big win at the Dew Tour in San Jose. Adams gained his diabolical middle name for being the first rider ever to defeat Travis Pastrana in competition.
But, the Californians won’t give in to Adams without a serious fight. And having home turf advantage could play in their favor. Jeremy Lusk, Myles Richmond, Wiley Fullmer and So Cal Metal Mulisha riders Ronnie Faisst and Robbie Maddison will be there to represent the West side.
Watch out for Mike Mason who has had a stellar season and is fresh from a big 2nd place finish at the Dew Tour. Mason, last year’s 4th place finisher at the LG Action Sports Tour, is known for being a major force to be reckoned with in both FMX and arenacross. Jeremy Lusk is another major contender for the World Champion title. Lusk has been riding since he was a wee lad of 4 years old.
Adam Jones, who placed 7th last year at the LG Action Sports Tour, can’t be ruled out as a top finisher either. He’s had several top ten placements during this 2006 season and is looking for a podium finish. Jim McNeil, aka Jumpin’ Jimmy, will also be looking for a top three finish. McNeil is known for his sick flip variations including his patented backflip superman seat grab.
Ronnie Faisst and Robbie Maddison, bad boy members of the Metal Mulisha team, will be looking to put the smack down as well. Faisst, who placed 6th at last year’s LG FMX Worlds, has a slew of top finishes including several medals at the Gravity Games. Aussie rider Maddison, who moved to the States full-time this year, is fresh from a 5th place finish at Red Bull X Fighters in Madrid.
Tickets are still available for the LG FMX World Championships. So, if you’re in the L.A. area, get on up and shake your booty over to the County Fair. For those slackers who can’t make it, the event will be televised nationally via prime time weekend programming on CBS, with additional coverage on Outdoor Life Network (OLN) and distribution to over 140 countries around the world.
