LG World Championships To Do Dallas
Oct 27 2006 / Los Angeles, CA You know how they say that everything’s bigger in Texas? Well, in the case of the LG Action Sports Tour grand finale there’s no question about it. It’s going to be freakin’ huge. The LG Action Sports Championships will be held in Dallas, the heart and soul of Texas, October 27-29 at the Reunion Arena. The three-day event is the season-ending competition for skateboarding, BMX and inline skating.Three hundred of the biggest names in skate, BMX and inline will descend upon Dallas from around the world to fight for the right to be called the best in their sport. Spectators will also get to hang with Tony Hawk and Mat Hoffman, hear the Deftones in concert, watch FMX demos from the biggest names in the sport, and see industry video premiers.
Skate Vert

But, let’s get down to business here and talk shop. Who’s expected to show? In Skate Vert we’ve got Bob Burnquist, Sandro Dias, Bucky Lasek, Pierre-Luc Gagnon, Rune Glifberg, just to name a few of the qualified skaters. It’s been a long contest season for all of these athletes, but they’ll be ready for the contest to end all contests in Dallas. Bucky Lasek is fresh from winning the Dew Cup in Orlando, FL, and wants more. Sandro Dias won X Games in L.A. and the Dew Tour in Portland. Add to that rivalry a slew of other big names who are itching for their chance at victory, and you know it’s going to be a heated contest.
Skate Street
The big Street contests in 2006 have been dominated by the young 'uns. And it’s likely to be no different in Dallas. Some of the skaters expected to compete in Street are 16 year-old Ryan Sheckler, who just won his second Dew Cup in a row; Jereme Rogers, winner of the last stop of the Dew Tour in Orlando; and 11 year-old Nyjah Huston who has been ripping it up in 2006 defying all conceptions of what an 11 year-old should be capable of. Also on the list are bad boys Greg Lutzka, Paul Rodriguez, and Austen Seaholm. These guys are always out for blood in competition, so no one will be safe in Dallas.

BMX Vert
The main story of BMX Vert surrounds one man, and one man only. That man just won the 2006 Dew Cup after placing 1st in four of the five Dew Tour stops. His name is Bestwick. Jamie Bestwick. There are a few brave riders who have beaten the nearly unstoppable Brit, and they will be looking forward to the opportunity to snatch the title away from him. Chad Kagy, winner of this year’s X Games and 2nd place finisher in four of the five Dew Tour stops, will be in Dallas looking for a win. Kevin Robinson, John Parker, Simon Tabron and wildcard Dave Mirra are also all expected to put on a big show.
BMX Street
BMX Street has been unbelievably competitive this year making it one of the most exciting events in action sports. We expect to see Tobias Wicke, Dave Dillewaard, Daniel Dhers, Scotty Cranmer, Ryan Nyquist, Morgan Wade, Steven McCann and a host of other insanely good BMXers in Dallas. Dhers is hot off a recent win at the Dew Tour in Orlando, which landed him the Dew Cup Title. Cranmer should be in Dallas, but is recovering from a nasty faceplant in Orlando that shattered half a dozen teeth after he went for a double back flip. Everyone will be putting it all on the line for a chance at the LG World Championships.
Inline Skate

Way back at the first X Games, over 10 years ago, there were more inline skating events than any other single discipline. That’s not the case anymore. The big action sport events have all given up on inline skating. But not the LG Action Sports Championship. LG is the biggest, and one of the last contests, that still feature both Vert and Street inline skating competition. Fans in Dallas can expect to see some serious battling between the Yasutoko brothers, Shane Yost, Marc Englehart, Nel Martin and many others. Over half a dozen women will compete in Dallas as well, including superstar Fabiola da Silva, the first woman to pull off a double back flip in competition. Fallon Heffernan, Katie Ketchum and Jenna Downing top the list.
Hawk and Hoffman
It is a truly rare opportunity, but somehow the LG Action Sports World Championships convinced the two greatest names in action sports to demo in Dallas. Tony Hawk and Mat Hoffman, the two legends of skate and BMX, will perform live on the world’s largest portable halfpipe on Saturday and Sunday October 28th and 29th. Fans will be happy to note that they’ll be signing autographs left and right all weekend long.
La Musica Con Mucho Volume
Don’t forget to bring your earplugs to Dallas because the Deftones will play Friday night, October 27 at the LG Action Sports World Championships. The Deftones have had a lot of ups and downs during their career, but have overcome the odds to rebuild themselves as a bigger, better, faster band. The Deftones are touring the country promoting the release of their recent album Saturday Night Wrist.
So, if you live in Dallas you better find a way to get to the Reunion Arena. If you live in Texas, hitchhike to Dallas if you have to. If you live outside of Texas, and you don’t have gas money, you better start walking, because you don’t want to miss the LG Action Sports World Championships.
