Twitch has his head up and his bike down going into the 2006 season. Bo Bridges
The FMX Evolution
Jun 01 2006 / Camp WoodwardFor Freestyle Motocross, 2005 was a pivotal year, and because of this new shift 2006 will be a year that rocks the status quo, giving birth to some of the gnarliest tricks ever dreamt of, and more new faces on the results board than there has ever been before.
You may be asking what changed so dramatically last year, and the answer to that is simple: for the first time, there is a championship series! It’s not only the go for broke, single important event anymore, and that makes it an entirely new sport. No longer will there be a mad man that luckily pulls off a trick he has been working on for a full year and gains all the marketing and celebrity that goes with that win for 365 days and then some while everyone else is washed away in the light of one rider’s glory. Now the top riders have to prove that week in and week out, they are the most stylish, creative, skilled and daring riders on the planet. There will still be room for some shocking one-hit wonders, that truly have a place in this sport, but we will now see an upper echelon of riders that spend millions of dollars on training facilities, and spend time just riding and improving. We will see sponsors that are willing to use these more stable platforms for major national and international marketing campaigns, spreading our sport to countless new fans. And most importantly for the fans, we will be seeing these riders step their game up to soaring new heights.
The courses are going to provide a totally new level of challenge with wall-rides, dirt spines, giant quarter pipes and 20 to 30 different jump possibilities with all the transfer lines factored in. Adams, Bartram and Pastrana are doing 360’s, and it appears that about 5 more riders will do those this year. Twitch has cliff-hanger flips down into foam and looks to unleash them onto dirt soon. Our resident Euros, Gaup and Rebaud have Ailo’s Underlflip down solid over 75 feet. Adam Jones, Bartram and a few others have Cordova Flips down like butter, and the list goes on. Don’t be a weekend wonder sitting in front of your TV for three days this year. Follow the new revolution of FMX on this site, Sophisticated Rider Magazine, and everywhere else that keeps you posted with all the inside scoop. And most importantly, use this new wave of information as inspiration to get yourself out and RIDE!
