National High School Skateboard Association (NHSSA)

NHSSA at X Games 13

The National High School Skateboard Association (NHSSA), formerly known as the California High School Skateboard Club, was at X Games 13 with a special best trick competition that took place on Friday, August 3. Ten riders took part in the comp, with Santa Monica's Kristos Andrews taking the top honors and receiving an X Games gold medal from Skate Street and Best Trick winner Chris Cole for his efforts. Check out a photo gallery from the event to see who was there...

The National High School Skateboard Association is the first organization in the history of skateboarding to structure competition at the high school level. Five-person teams from various high schools compete over a season of events. Although similiar to other high school sports competing over a season, this organization realizes the nature of skateboarding and allows for the freedom/independence that skateboarding is known for. The skateboarders themselves have input, the skateboarders are not coached, the skateboarders are competing in an enviornment that is true to the skateboard culture. The organization allows for skateboarders from all over to come together and compete. Unlike other traditional sports, the skateboarders are not concerned with who wins the competition, the best skateboarders are recognized by all involved, no matter what school they are from. The four month season is a chance for the skateboarders to socialize with friends, represent their school in a team sport, and open the door for opportunities after graduating from high school.

The National High School Skateboard Association is now getting ready for season #2. For more information, please contact Jeffrey Stern at: jeffreystern@roadrunner.com

Financial support/Sponsorship is needed to continue to build the organization. Any help is greatly appreciated.
