With 29 competitors vying for just 12 spots in the Skate Park Final, Ryan Sheckler kept himself in his favorite position – number one – in today's Prelims. Sheckler was followed closely by Brazilian skater Rodolfo Ramos in second and Chad Bartie in third. Jereme Rogers – currently in second place in the overall Dew Tour standings – took sixth, followed by Billy Marks, Nilton Neves, Dayne Brummet, Ricardo Oliveira, Ronnie Creager, and Thomas Parent.
Wild card skaters Steve Caballero and Tony Trujillo each missed the cut for the Finals, but were crowd favorites nonetheless.

The big news of the day? 11 year-old skate prodigy Nyjah Huston was a no-show. Currently in third place in the overall Dew Tour standings, the story of his pro debut this summer had become a focus of much attention around the Dew Tour and here on Lat34. We have yet to hear an explanation for his absence, but will give a full report as details become available. Huston also missed the Slam City Jam last month.
With Huston out of the mix, the overall Dew Tour points race will come down to a head-to-head between Sheckler (255 total points) and Rogers (238 total points). Ramos, the next closest competitor, has 145 points and will need a big win tomorrow to be a contender for the Dew Cup. The math could get messier in the overall points race if one of the newcomers takes over tomorrow: Austen Seaholm was entirely at home on the course, skating fast, launching huge airs over the hip, and using the entire course in ways that could prove threatening to Sheckler's winning streak.
