Sheckler Mania: Q&A Session with Ryan Sheckler
Mar 28 2007 / Los Angeles,CA Life on a Roll: Ryan ShecklerWhen Ryan Sheckler was four-years-old and his Dad asked him what he wanted for his birthday he simply said, "Tony Hawk." The Sheckler's lived in Southern California and at the time the Hawk was somewhat an accessible athlete, so Ryan's Dad found Tony's email and invited the legendary skater to his son's birthday party. Sure enough the mega-skateboard star showed up. "I asked them what kind of cake they were going to have and when they said chocolate, I thought why not?" Hawk later said of dropping in on the young Sheckler.

So far this season he’s dominated and traded spots back and forth with the latest skate favorite, Nyjah Huston. Sheckler was the Dew Tour winner last year and he’s hoping to hold tight to his top podium spot this year, but with two more stops on the tour, it’s still anyone’s game. Lat34 caught up with the Sheck and asked him a few questions about his life, having groupies and what tunes he’s rocking when he cruises through Encinitas in his Range Rover.
Lat34: What is on your iPod play list right now?
RS: Lil Jon, Children of Bodom, ASG, AC/DC.
Lat34: If you didn't skate, which sport would be your next interest?
RS: Motocross.

Lat34: When did you know that Skateboarding would be your profession?
RS: Never. I just did it because I loved it!
Lat34: Do you still get to hang out with your friends?
RS: Whenever I'm home.
Lat34: Is going to school strange for you, do you get bugged a lot with questions and “groupies”?
RS: No, because I go to a private school where it's just me and the teacher. It's not a traditional school setting.
Lat34: Any plans for retirement?
RS: Haha. Not yet.
Lat34: How long do you see yourself skating?
RS: I will skate for life! I will skate professionally as long as I am able.
