Mike Mason Destroys “The Destroyer”

Nov 02 2006 / Orlando, FL
FMX Finals blasted off Sunday at the Dew Action Sports Tour PlayStation Pro in Orlando. And nobody could have guessed the outcome. Nate "the Destroyer" Adams was the overall Dew Cup points leader and the favorite to win Orlando. But, right behind Adams was a slew of veterans and up-and-comers who are foaming at the mouth for a chance to strike. The Playstation Pro in Orlando was their last chance to do so at the 2006 Dew Tour. Mike Mason (currently 3rd overall), Jeremy Lusk (4th overall), Jim McNeil (5th overall), Robbie Maddison (6th overall), and Adam Jones (7th overall) were all within 40 points of each other in the overall standings coming into Sunday’s Finals.

And when the last rider took his run, it was none other than Mike Mason standing triumphant on the podium in first place with a scorching 95.67. Jeremy Lusk threw down an amazing run that was good enough for 2nd and Nate Adams dropped down from his normal ranking to 3rd.

Mike Mason said he was shocked by the scoring, saying, “I felt pretty good, but I didn’t expect that high of a score.” The modest Mason went on to explain, “But, I did stay out late with the judges the other night, so I think that’s paying off!” Mason led the leader board after his first run, even beating Nate Adams. He said he was unsure of what Adams would do for his second run. After that first run he said, “I’m a little scared of what Nate has in store, to be honest. You never know what he’s going to do.”

But, somehow the super-consistent Nate Adams couldn’t muster up a big enough run to beat Mason’s dominating run. When asked what motivated him he said, “Orlando has the best-looking girls. So, I had to show off for them.” And that’s exactly what he did.

Jeremy Lusk’s performance started off with a bang and put him in 2nd place when it all said and done. He came out swinging going all out with a no-handed back flip to one-hand land right off the bat. And from there he was nearly flawless. Read his full interview here>>

And then there was Nate Adams. He came out with wearing a gold helmet with the words “2006 Champion” on the back of it. But, the over-confident Adams just couldn’t bring it all together to take the win. He still gets a podium finish though, and will win the Dew Cup with all of the points he’s amassed over the long season.

Mike Mason’s win in the Finals brings up his overall points total and puts him in 2nd for the Dew Cup. And finally, Travis Pastrana, who dropped out of the Dew Tour in San Jose still managed to gain enough points for a 3rd place finish on the season.
