There have been several double backflips thrown down over the years, Mirra, Murray, Kagy, Nastazio - they all have them, but it is very rare for any of them to pull them out in competition. Michael Clark however knew what it could do for him and buckled down and into a gorgeous double back flip over the last hit of the triple set in BMX Dirt in Denver.
9. Burnquist's Winning Run
Watching Bob Burnquist skate vert is the visual equivalent of being tickled. It is a sensational sensation. Bob dropped into his winning run in Louisville with a huge first hit switch stalefish and it just got better from there. One of the most beautiful & equally crazy handplant variations ever concocted was thrown in to specifically take the breath out of the lungs of the entire crowd.
8. Nate Adams' Lazy Boy Backflip (see the video)
The first time you see a lazy boy backflip your heart stops. It's that simple. So you can imagine the collective silencing of hearts for the Denver crowd when Nate Adams thew one into the middle of his run.

The 720 barspin is one of those tricks that leaves you very confused about what just happened. You think to yourself, "did I just see a tailwhip, or a backflip, or what? I don't even remember." It is however worth the confusion when they are done flawlessly by Ryan Nyquist. Think of it as a vacation from "everything makes sense land"
6. The Doubles Run (see the video)
Travis Pastrana invited Kenny Bartram (who was in sixth place) to accompany him on his gold medal victory lap in Louisville. The two old friends took the jumps at full speed, and made everyone cringe at the closeness of their dueling backflips. FMX isn't known for being the friendliest sport, but Travis & Kenny are putting an end to that.
5. Keith McElhinney's Frontflip Flair
Keith McElhinney has been working on the front flip flair (which he named the Lawn Dart) for close to a year. And although it was after competition time, he stomped it on the vert ramp in Denver.
4. Bartram's One-Handed Take Off to One-Handed Backflip (see the video)
The evolution of the backflip has lead us to Kenny Bartram's freshly debuted one-handed take off to one-handed backflip. Riders can already land backflips no-handed and sidesaddle, and they can do pretty much any variation in the air, so it was going to take someone like Bartram for the new phase of evolution to set in and throw a variation on the take off, BEFORE he even hits the air.
3. Napolitan is the Dark Horse of BMX Dirt
Napolitan proved to be the dark horse of the BMX Dirt Final in Louisville. In an action packed final - which included three completely separate ties (for first, fourth, and seventh place) which were decided by comparing the lower-scored runs of each of the tied riders - Napolitan put together an amazing run consisting of a no handed frontflip, a tailwhip, and a double tailwhip 360 to beat out Luke Parslow for the gold.

1. Twitch Breaks Himself
Jeremy "Twitch" Stenberg got broken off (literally) in one of the gnarliest falls in recent FMX history. After airing out of & over the quarterpipe, Twitch lost his composure and fell off of his bike. He continued upward (while still upside down) and then began his jaw clenchingly long decent to the landing, the place where he would manage to land feet first, but also manage to break some bones in his legs and feet.
