Meet the Buried Life Crew – 100 Things to Do Before You Die

Feb 04 2007 / Los Angeles, CA

Four young Canadians decide to take on their dream list of what they want to do before they die. What would you do?

What happens when four guys between the ages of 19-23 decide they want to make a difference in not only their world, but those around them? The story is simple: Four friends came together because of a similar draw to the ultimate question: What do you want to do before you die? They decided to make a movie because they were curious to hear what people would say they wanted to do. Their list included things like get a tattoo, be a knight for a day, longboard skateboard a crazy hill, learn to surf, get on the front page of the paper and more.

The Buried Life' Film Trailer - 100 Things to Do Before You Die

'The Buried Life' Film Trailer - Longboarding Adventure

After months of planning the crew set out in August 2006 with a video camera and a loaner RV to attempt their list of "50 things to do before you die" and to help 50 strangers they met along the way do something they had always wanted to do. In three weeks they knocked 26 items off their list and helped 24 people. Since then their list has grown to over 100 items and they have taken the cap off the number of people they're setting out to help.

"We call ourselves The Buried Life because we know how easy it is to get buried beneath day to day commitments and lose sight of what's really important," explains Ben Nemtin. "That's the reason we're doing this whole thing -- we don't want to look back on our life and realize we didn't take the time to live it right."

While the project has only just begun, the group hopes in the next year to complete a film or a TV show out of their adventures. "The final film will come out when we feel we have achieved our goal. In the mean time, check out our ongoing adventures in the video gallery and post your list on our site so we can come help you."

Duncan Penn

Duncan is the older Penn boy. As a kid he used to make movies with his brother and the other neighborhood kids, until one day he had to leave and grow up. He packed his bags and left for Montreal, finding himself with a Business degree four years later. Having never lost his imagination, Duncan continued to make movies with his buddies in university before finding a surf board in his closet and setting out to conquer the beach. He enjoys competitive rock paper scissors, theme parties, going fast, surfing and the Coen brothers.

Duncan wants to open the six o’clock news.

Despite his age, Jonnie is an accomplished activist and academic. Before enrolling at McGill University to study History and English he set his mind to stopping racism, smoking, anti-skateboarding prejudice and just about anything that needed fixing. A passion for filmmaking and debating won him awards International Youth Film Festival and a place at the world renowned Oxford University Debating Tournament. Jonnie likes cheesy, shiny things and has a not-so-secret affection for yacht-rock and funkadelic music from the 70s.

Ben Nemtin

The son of a distinguished entertainer, Ben knew quickly that his Science major would be little use to him on his path to glory. Microscopes aside, he found his real calling as a beer rep, a fleeting movie star (White Chicks, 2004) and networking with people around the globe. Forever on the move, Ben is constantly wheeling and dealing making things happen for the team.  His legs are skinny and his hobbies include longboarding, traveling, and sushi eating contests.

Ben wants to make a toast at a stranger’s wedding.
