Kagy Wins But Bestwick Takes Third Straight Dew Cup In BMX Vert At The PlayStation Pro

Oct 21 2007 / Orlando, FL

Jamie Bestwick claimed his third straight Dew Cup title by placing second in Friday’s BMX vert finals at the PlayStation Pro at Amway Arena.

Bestwick, 36, made a remarkable comeback after an unfortunate first run.

On his initial drop-in, the crank arm of his pedal fell off his bike, thrusting him into the air as his bike fell down the ramp. Bestwick ricocheted off the ramp and slid down to the flat bottom.

"My crank snapped on my first run so I needed a huge second run to win the Cup,” Bestwick said. “Don't think it was planned that way for the dramatic. There was a lot of pressure going into the final run.”

Bestwick scored a 92.67 on his second run which moved him from last to second. Chad Kagy of Gilroy, Calif. won the event with a 92.67. He finished first based on his higher first run score.

Bestwick had entered the contest with a 55 point lead over fellow Brit Simon Tabron in the Dew Cup standings. Tabron finished fourth, giving him second overall in the standings. Australia’s Steven McCann finished third in the event and third in the standings. Kagy placed fourth in the Dew Cup race.

“I'm just pleased that I could squeak in front of Simon to win that third Dew Cup,” Bestwick said. I have no problems about this second place trophy because on Sunday I'll step on that podium and pick up my third Dew Cup."

Bestwick has won 12 of 15 Dew Tour events since 2005.

The four-day competition is the last of five stops of the tour that features skateboarding, BMX and freestyle motocross.
