Kagy Assassinates The Competition In Dallas
Nov 02 2006 / Dallas, TXChad Kagy received a purple nurple from Simon Tabron after winning Saturday’s BMX Vert Prelims at the LG Action Sports Championships in Dallas. But, on Sunday Kagy received a check for $30,000 for his win in the Finals. And while he probably felt all warm and fuzzy from Tabron’s gesture, I’m thinking Kagy probably appreciates the fat check a little more.
Ten of the biggest names in BMX Vert duked it out in the Finals for the right to claim the World Championship Title. And while it was the usual suspects in the top qualifying positions, the Finals were anything but ordinary. Jimmy Walker came out swinging with a big bag of tricks despite riding with a broken left wrist. His biggest run that included a big turndown flair and several 540 variations scored him an 87.25 and landed him 4th place.
Walker was beat out by Kevin Robinson who ultimately rocketed into 3rd place with an insane run highlighted by a giant no-handed flair and a handful of other ridiculous tricks that Kevin can do in his sleep and you can’t. He scored an 89.25. Robinson is the only man to ever do a double flair in competition. Robinson won the LG Tour stop in San Diego this year and finished 3rd for the season at the Dew Tour.
Simon Tabron busted out an incredibly huge 900 quickly followed by a 540. He also pulled off a no-handed 540 alley oop. But, for some reason he lost steam and eased off the throttle resulting in a 2nd place finish with a score of 91.5. But, all wasn’t for naught, because Tabron did win the Mad Croc crazy trick award and a wee check for $500 for his big 900. Tabron had an amazing season with 1st place wins at the LG Tour in Virginia, Amsterdam, Berlin, and Paris… and a 2nd place finish in Birmingham (UK).

And that leaves Chad Kagy. Kagy has had a big contest season as he recently finished the Dew Tour in 2nd place behind Jamie Bestwick, and won X Games earlier this year. But, apparently that wasn’t enough for Kagy, because he came to Dallas looking for another win. And he got it. Kagy pulled off a huge run with tricks like the flat spin tailwhip and a picture-perfect barspin flair. Kagy scored a massive 93.0 and took home the gold rodeo belt buckle the size of Texas and an equally large check for $30K.
