Who here is ready to get down and PARTY!?! And anyone who knows us here at LAT34, we are always ready to get down and get wild. And the beginning of this past summer, we threw the ultimate POOL PARTY where everyone in the office stopped by for a drink and had some of the most gorgeous GIRLS our salaries could afford. Let me just tell you, the BOONES FARM was flowing all night; at least until 9:30 when a couple of us got major stomach aches from all the sugar we ingested from the Boones. That’s how we roll.
Last, last Thursday, global youth lifestyle brand Airwalk celebrated 25 years of independent expression with a party in Hollywood. Since its birth in Southern California in 1986, Airwalk helped influence and shape the evolution of boardsports and boardsport culture. As one of the first sports brands inspired by and made specifically for skaters, Airwalk, over the years, has introduced a number of iconic footwear designs and supported a generation of the most influential skateboarders, BMX’ers, surfers and snowboarders. The anniversary party will pay homage to the brand’s iconic status within the action sports community.
Now with our great loyalty to Airwalk who has always been there for us since we were wee little boys, we had to be there to celebrate with the Airwalk crew in Hollywood. That means waddling past all the SHINY SHIRT club goers, but it was all worth it.
Hosted at The Colony in Hollywood, the anniversary party culminates a year-long celebration of the brand’s 25th anniversary, which has featured a series of signature shoe reissues and digital marketing initiatives. The event will reunite past and present team members and usher attendees through a visual history of the brand, highlighting some of the brand’s most influential athletes and important “Airwalk” moments in marketing, advertising and pop culture. In addition, iconic footwear such as the original Prototype, the Vic, the One and the Disaster will be on display along with Airwalk’s recently released styles including the JIM Plastic and the Brooklyn Banks Enigma.
“We’re thrilled to be able to share this occasion with our fans, whether they’ve loved Airwalk since its early days or just recently discovered the brand,” said Eric Dreyer, VP of Brand Management for Collective Licensing International, which owns the Airwalk brand. “It’s exciting to have so many individuals who have been – and still are – involved with the brand to come together and celebrate this milestone.”
Hip-hop duo Chiddy Bang will provide the evening’s music, which will include a DJ set and live performance. The widely-acclaimed pair have created unprecedented Internet buzz with their unique, genre-blending sound and have recently become regulars on the music festival circuit. Additional sounds will be spun by Los Angeles–based DJ Mike Danger. Rony’s Photo Booth will also be on-site, complete with mobile uploading capabilities to ensure guests can share their experiences in real-time within their networks.
Guests will take home custom-designed 25th anniversary Airwalk flip-flops, an Airwalk anniversary edition bag, a custom gift card redeemable at Airwalk’s online shop and bags of candy provided by Red Vines. Drinks will be provided by Pabst Blue Ribbon.
As part of its 25th anniversary celebrations, the brand has teamed up with Payless ShoeSource to give back to local non-profit, the Silverlake Conservatory of Music, whose mission is to facilitate music education. From Sept. 15 through Sept. 21, a portion of sales from the limited-edition Airwalk Chukka (style #087648) will be donated to the Conservatory. Only 300 pairs of this unisex style will be available exclusively at www.payless.com.
