Meet With Your Colleagues To Make The Carlsbad Park Possible
April 26, 2010 – 8:41 pm PT by MikeTags: Carlsbad Gap, Skatepark —

Back in the 90’s a skaters BALLS were measured by his ability to conquer the CARLSBAD GAP. Everyone who skates knows, or should know, what the Carlsbad Gap is. Carlsbad High School has a number of skate spots, but there is only one spot that matters. There used to be a sister gap directly next to the Carlsbad Gap but was hindered with an annoying rail, rendering it unskateable unless you are Kris Markovich. But for some reason, the main gap, the Carlsbad Gap was untouched. Pros, amateurs, non sponsored skaters, and such would take the trip to the gap on a nice southern California weekend afternoon. It didn’t matter if you had the ability to ollie it, 180 ollie, or the small handful of tricks that were possible down the grassy knoll. The fact that you had the balls to do anything down it, gave you much JUICE.
Well today, that gap has not only been conquered by hundreds of skates from around the world, that gap has been put to shame. No longer are skaters (even kids) intimidated by the gap that was once a dream killer. Skaters these days are doing tricks down it as if it were a set of 3 steps. Check out this foots from TRANSWORLD that showcases the modern skater.
The reason why the Carlsbad Gap was so big in its day was because there was nothing else really to skate in such a beautiful city. The same still applies today. That is why if you are from the city of Carlsbad, you need to go out and support your local skate community in bringing a skatepark to your area. The plans for the park will be presented to the City Council tomorrow night (April 27, 6 p.m. at Carlsbad City Hall). Join the FACEBOOK page as well. Check out the plans HERE.
