The 2009 Thrasher Skater Of The Year Is…

Before we go into who really won skater of the year, it looks like my nominees have been grossly overlooked once again despite the positive influences my choices have contributed to the skateboarding world. I had been vouching and nominating ESPN Asia X-GAMES host Paul Higgins for multiple years in a row. And sadly, his legacy is slowly fading away. Actually, his legacy had been taking a rapid nosedive ever since he took his colorful skateboard commentary over to the land where skateboarding is looked at as a CIRCUS STUNT. My other nomination Sammy Curtis, who is better known as the SKATEBOARD KID, has had my vote for well over 15 years. It’s sad that even Willy Santos won’t even give me a second to hear me out.
Soon enough these major players such as these will be just a spec of a memory if we in the skateboarding COMMUNITY don’t keep them alive. Just remember who taught you how to make up names of tricks on the spot when you have no clue in the world what that trick is called. And remember who taught you that no matter what kind of danger you may be in, your FLYING skateboard would always be there to save you.
As for the real winner of the 2009 Thrasher Skater of the Year, you will have to go over to the THRASHER website to see a cute video clip featuring an even cuter JAKE PHELPS as he makes a phone call to a certain somebody to break the news. You can just tell from the excitement in Jake’s voice that he feels really honored to be presenting the winner this prestigious award.
Check out the video over at THRASHER.
