Winning a title is always a great feeling. It just shows that all your hard work and determination got you to your ultimate goal, which is to be on top. Of course there is an advantage to be an underdog going into your competition since your opponent, the champion, is expected to win. Basically being an underdog leaves you with nothing to lose. That’s why I believe besides winning a title, the hardest thing to do is to retain that title with multiple title defenses. When you think about it, only a handful of teams, or individuals have been able to retain their title after multiple challenges.
My favorite team, the LA Clippers will never experience this. They will never even come close to winning a championship as long as Donald Sterling continues to own the team. And it doesn’t help that he’s the grandpa version of RUSH LIMBAUGH. But the team across the hallway know exactly what it feels like. The LA Lakers have won 15 titles and have even gone back to back to back. Can you even grasp the concept of winning that often on a consistent basis? The seasons are long, people get hurt, and contracts get traded. Yet despite any hurdles thrown in front of them, they pull off pure amazing.
But one man that never ceases to impress is not even a man, He’s a WAPAKMAN. For you boxing fans, if you saw the Manny/Cotto fight this past weekend, you witnessed greatness. Manny just won his 7th title in 7 weight classes. The guy began his career at 106 lbs and is now fighting at 145 lbs. It must be the BALUT.
But for most people, continuing on their winning streak proves to be too much. Carlos Lastra from Long Beach, CA showed just that at this year’s éS Game of SKATE at the Amateur World Championships. Diego Najera dethroned Carlos Lastra and Brian Peacock of Wilmington, DE to become this the undisputed Game of Skate Champion.
Via Skatedaily, It all came down to Diego Najera’s last trick – a tough nollie double flip that took out Carlos Lastra. Diego’s win as éS Game of SKATE Amateur World Champion earned him a year’s worth of éS footwear and apparel, $1,000 worth of Skull Candy gear, a Nixon Ceramic Player watch and two year subscription to Transworld Skateboarding magazine.
In addition to the éS Game of SKATE, a new concept was added to the festivities called the “Tricktionary.” This event gave all skateboarders a chance to film any trick of their choice with their own unique style. éS will pick the cleanest variations of each trick and put the how-to videos in the first-ever flat-ground “Tricktionary” on the éS Game of SKATE website. Check the site in the coming weeks to see all the variations.
