Everyone needs a partner in crime. Your partner will always help you get out of any troublesome situation thick or thin. He or she will be there when you need some help moving out of your mom’s house. And they will even be there to help you find some CHICKS to mack on. Even loners have a partner somewhere but they tend to be virtual or an online buddy. Your partner is often described as your wingman, or in some cases, your Iceman if you tend to play the role of Maverick.
Skaters always have a wingman. And most of the time, whether or not you’re the wingman, there’s always a filmer and the predominant skater. They feed off each other to create wonderful art. And if the relationship builds with nothing in the way, it can lead to a professional relationship.
The first time that Sean Malto shot with videographer Ryan Lovell, he was only 12 years-old and according to Lovell, he busted out over half a dozen solid tricks on that one-day shoot. Needless to say, the two have been filming together ever since, and eight years later, the friendship that has formed helps both Malto and Lovell take care of business and have fun in the process.
Just another day on the job, Malto and Lovell round up a crew and head downtown to hit some of Kansas City’s finest ledges. After a brief session, they move on to a second spot – a double set that’s big, but not big enough to faze Malto. The two set up and with a sky that’s promising rain, Malto charges and Lovell shoots. With a solid history behind them, these two make each other’s job easy – no pressure, no problem, this is their labor of love and it’s all in a day’s work.
