I think I’m literally the only person I’ve ever met or know of, that will consider himself a hipster. Actually I wouldn’t call myself a hipster now because I try to model myself more of an ERNIE REYES JR. type, but I’m not afraid to admit that I used to be one. I definitely used to be one. Everything from the continuous party lifestyle, to the MUSIC, to the HAIRCUT, and even down to the BEER of choice, made me a hipster. I was a straight up hipster. Now most hipsters, especially in the United States would never even dare to consider themselves hipster. Why? Because these kids are too much of individuals to even stereotype themselves into any sort of class or subculture. They are usually comprised of art students with a highly educated background in indie music that would make even MATT PINFIELD proud.
So being around these type of people so often made them easily identifiable to me. I could spot a hipster a mile away amidst all the poseur hipsters who were actually into KELLY CLARKSON, ASHLEE SIMPSON, and AVRIL LEVIGNE. And to not be labeled a hipster, yet be heavily into high-end fashion, or indie movies, or indie music, or art, or obscure books, was it very difficult. You had to either be well into your 40’s and have knowledge of everything cool, or so into your own world, like a DASH SNOW, who didn’t carry a cell phone, or had a permanent address, which reflects that of a 1920’s post impressionist.
A few years had passed and I began to get older. I got tired of these hipster qualities and the lifestyle seemed empty. More and more of these clubs started to look like bad raves of the late 1990’s. I felt so dated and relieved at the same time. It had become apparent that the life cycle had come full circle and I was coming to the end of mine. The fact that good music was being replaced with bad trance, and cooler more educated people were replace with people like THE COBRA SNAKE and his under aged crackhead girlfriend CORY KENNEDY (not the same mentioned above), made me relieved that I have a good reason to leave all the partying behind. It was sort of a revelation to me that I had to grow up and move on with my life.
That’s why I’m happy to come back to a world I’ve known my whole life: skateboarding. The new Cory Kennedy has been replaced by the old Cory Kennedy in my world and I’m excited to see where this kid is going. I hadn’t really known of him until his footage from the BERRICs, but I like what I see and apparently so does GIRL SKATEBOARDS. He is the newest addition to the team and he’s going to make that team even stronger now. Did you see his new add on CRAILTAP? Just sick.
