Jake Shimabukuro In Concert Friday, November 20 In Oceanside, CA
October 27, 2009 – 8:26 am PT by BrianTags: California Surf Festival, Conan Obrien, Jake Shimabukuro, The Beatles, Triumph the Insult Comic Dog —
Like you I had never heard of this dude, until he was on Conan.
I was having a hard time sleeping one night (like normal) and was flipping around the channels. Everything on TV sucked except for the 3 AM replay of the Conan O’Brien Show. I was super stoked to find this was on because I am a huge fan of “Triumph the Insult Comic Dog” and was hoping I might catch one of his sketches.
Unfortunately there was no Triumph, but I was able to catch a performance by Jake Shimabukuro; Jake played “As My Guitar Gently Weeps”. You may be thinking to yourself, “Big wow, the guy played a Beatles cover…” Jake did play a cover but what made him special is he played it on the ukulele.
I have never heard anyone play a ukulele like Jake, he made the baby size guitar sound like a drum line but with guitars. The guy is really amazing; I was excited to hear that Jake is playing in Oceanside on November 20th. Jake’s concert is part of the California Surf Festival and is something you should really try to check out. For more info on the event, keep reading:
Jake Shimabukuro, one of the best ukulele players in the world, comes to Oceanside Friday, November 20th. Jake Shimabukuro’s (shee-ma-BOO-koo-row) virtuosity on the four-stringed instrument defies label or category. Playing jazz, blues, funk, classical, bluegrass, folk, flamenco, and rock, Jake’s mission is to show everyone that the instrument is capable of so much more than the Hawaiian music usually associated with it. Jake has played and recorded with a treasure trove of other musicians including Jimmy Buffet, Diana Krall, Fiona Apple, Bobby McFerrin, and Ziggy Marley, just to name a few. He has also appeared on The Late Show with Conan O’Brien. His new LIVECD was released to rave reviews.
Jake recently finished work on the music score of “HighWater” by Dana Brown, producer of “Step Into Liquid.” HighWater is about life surfing on the North Shore of Hawaii during the prestigious Triple Crown of Surfing professional surfing competition.
Come join us for a musical experience you’ll never forget!
